Why work with us: our nuclear-sector project record includes both precision gantry handling and a 550t overhead crane. That experience gives your procurement team concrete equipment references to discuss alongside the proposed design.

A Crane Selected for the Actual Lifting Location

A nuclear power plant crane handles equipment during plant construction, assembly or maintenance. The term covers several different arrangements: a building-mounted overhead crane, a rail-mounted gantry crane and specialized nuclear handling equipment. Location, load path and safety function determine which arrangement belongs in the project.

For conventional-island buildings, workshops and construction areas, we develop overhead or gantry equipment around the load and available space. For safety-important duties, our technical review first addresses the plant classification, procurement standards and supplier qualification requirements. The offer states the accepted design scope and supporting documentation.

    Solutions for Plant Equipment Handling

Lifting task Equipment we can propose What the design provides
Turbine and generator maintenance A double-girder overhead crane with main and auxiliary lifting as appropriate. Coverage from equipment pickup to the agreed laydown positions, with controlled approach near the component.
Heavy component assembly An engineered overhead or gantry crane for the designated assembly area. A lifting arrangement matched to component mass, rigging, lifting points and available clearance.
Construction and fabrication handling A rail-mounted double-girder gantry crane. Working coverage across the selected bays, transport interfaces and component staging positions.
Maintenance workshops An overhead crane or electric-hoist arrangement sized for the workshop duty. Useful hook reach, service access and a configuration suited to the load spectrum.
Existing crane replacement A replacement crane evaluated against the current building or runway. Proposed wheel reactions, approach dimensions and erection interfaces for plant coordination.

Reactor polar cranes, refuelling equipment and spent-fuel handling belong to specialized procurement scopes. For these enquiries, project qualification and the applicable safety requirements are reviewed before equipment suitability is offered.

Choose the Overhead or Gantry Configuration

We start with the movement the crane must complete: where the load is collected, how it travels and where it is placed. The proposal then connects that route with the crane geometry, hoisting system and controls.

Project condition Our proposed approach Result for the project
An indoor bay with building runways Double-girder overhead crane with the required trolley and hook arrangement. Lifting coverage within the building, with wheel loads and clearance data for structural coordination.
An open yard or a bay without overhead supports Rail-mounted gantry configuration. Component transfer supported from ground-level runways.
Heavy lifts plus frequent lighter work Separate main and auxiliary lifting duties where suitable. Each hoisting mechanism is selected for its own load and operating cycle.
A load with two designated lifting points Engineered beam or coordinated lifting arrangement after reviewing load distribution. The technical proposal defines attachment geometry, permitted loading and control functions.
Restricted installation or maintenance clearance A layout study covering headroom, hook approach and machinery access. A crane arrangement that can be assembled and serviced within the available space.

    Compare the Main Crane Arrangements

Arrangement Main advantage Typical selection basis
Double-girder overhead crane Building-wide coverage without gantry legs at floor level. Runway capacity, span, hook approach, lifting height and maintenance space.
Double-girder gantry crane Coverage where a building runway is unavailable. Rail foundations, yard access, travel route and outdoor conditions.
Workshop electric-hoist crane A practical arrangement for smaller maintenance loads. Workshop load spectrum and the installed hoist rating.
Specialized nuclear handling crane Equipment developed for a defined nuclear handling function. Plant safety classification, procurement code, qualification and approved operating basis.

Crane geometry and nuclear classification are separate decisions. An overhead or gantry crane may require a specialized design when the lifting location or load path makes the duty safety-important.

Controlled Motion for Heavy and High-Value Components

Smooth approach to the landing position

Variable-frequency control allows the motion profile to combine transfer speed with controlled low-speed approach. We select speeds and acceleration around the lifting sequence.

Anti-sway matched to the operating task

The control package can include anti-sway for bridge and trolley movement. Its acceptance conditions are linked to representative loads, rope lengths and travel profiles.

    Visible operating status

PLC-based controls can bring mechanism status, limits and alarms together. The included displays, records and plant communication interfaces are identified in the electrical scope.

Regenerative drives are an option for suitable duties and site power systems. We assess them against the operating cycle; the 550t project includes energy recovery, but no fixed energy-saving percentage is promised for another crane.

A Defined Basis for Nuclear Project Procurement

The technical offer identifies the accepted crane duty and the requirements used to develop it. For a safety-important application, supplier eligibility, quality assurance, code compliance and qualification evidence are part of the pre-award review.

Procurement area How it is addressed
Top-running multiple-girder equipment ASME NOG-1 covers electric overhead and gantry cranes with top-running bridge and trolley used at nuclear facilities. The invoked edition and project requirements belong in the agreed design basis.
Heavy-load control at U.S. nuclear facilities NRC Regulatory Guide 1.244 provides guidance on heavy-load handling. Application follows the plant licensing and procurement basis.
Failure response and recovery The proposal identifies the accepted brake, protection and recovery functions. A single-failure-proof requirement calls for an assessment of the complete lifting system.
Seismic or environmental qualification Where applicable, qualification scope and supporting evidence are reviewed for the defined installation and components.
Quality assurance and traceability The agreed quality plan defines supplier approval, records, inspection participation and document submission.

Dual brakes and anti-sway are useful equipment features; they do not by themselves establish single-failure-proof performance or nuclear-code compliance. Qualification commitments appear in the project offer with the required evidence.

Inspection and Acceptance Planned with the Equipment

We manufacture against the approved crane design and agreed inspection plan. Your contracted document schedule makes the handover package visible during procurement, rather than leaving test records and manuals until dispatch.

Stage Deliverables within the agreed scope
Design coordination General arrangement, technical schedule, civil interface data and electrical documentation.
Manufacturing inspection Material and component records, fabrication inspections and specified welding / examination records.
Factory acceptance Reports for assembly, mechanisms, brakes, limits and contracted control functions; load tests under the approved procedure.
Site commissioning Installation and operating checks, agreed functional tests and site acceptance records.
Handover Operation and maintenance manuals, parts information, drawings and training records.

Customer or appointed third-party attendance can be coordinated with the agreed inspection stages. Specialized nuclear quality records and qualification reports are included only where expressly accepted in the supply scope.

Nuclear Power Plant Crane Price and Quotation Scope

A nuclear power plant crane is priced for its configuration and procurement scope. Capacity and span affect the equipment cost; classification, qualification, inspection and documentation can materially change the engineering and delivery package.

Henan Mine Crane provides a project quotation with separately identified equipment, engineering and site services. The delivery term and exclusions make it clear whether an offer covers the crane package, delivery to site or additional installation work.

Quotation item What the offer identifies
Mechanical equipment Bridge or gantry, trolley, hoisting machinery, travel drives and service access.
Electrical and controls Power distribution, VFDs, PLC, operating stations and selected positioning / monitoring functions.
Project engineering and quality Accepted design requirements, document schedule, inspection stages and any contracted qualification work.
Runway and site interfaces Included rails, electrification and installation materials, with civil works distinguished from crane supply.
Logistics and site services Packing, transport, installation guidance or attendance, commissioning and training as selected.
Lifecycle support Recommended initial spares, warranty scope and the agreed service arrangements.

Start with the lifting task and available layout for a preliminary budget discussion. We develop the equipment proposal and identify open items before issuing a firm quotation against the agreed scope.

Delivery Planned Around Construction or the Outage Window

We coordinate crane dimensions, shipping sections and assembly access during engineering. For an existing plant, the erection approach is developed alongside runway access, available lifting equipment and the permitted work area.

The project schedule links drawing approval, manufacture, inspection, shipment and contracted site work. The commercial offer states the delivery basis; a shutdown window or plant-access date is incorporated into the agreed programme rather than assumed from a standard lead time.

Commissioning support and operator training help the site team move from assembled equipment to the approved handling sequence. Site attendance, local installation work and plant operating authorization are allocated in the project scope.

    Maintenance and Spare-Parts Support

Henan Mine Crane supports parts identification, maintenance planning and technical troubleshooting. Nameplate details, drawings and component references let us identify the relevant rope, brake, drive or electrical part without treating a replacement as a generic catalogue purchase.

The equipment design addresses access to inspection and replacement points. Recommended initial spares and planned-service needs can be discussed before delivery, with warranty terms and service arrangements included in the commercial agreement.

Get an Equipment Proposal from the Information You Have

Henan Mine Crane · Rail-to-Road Container Transfer Systems

    Intermodal Terminal Crane Systems

Rail-mounted and rubber-tyred container cranes engineered for transfer between freight trains, trucks and storage blocks.

An intermodal terminal crane package is selected around track layout, live-rail clearances, truck exchange lanes, under-spreader load, train length, peak lifts per hour, yard storage strategy, power infrastructure and terminal-control interfaces.

What Is an Intermodal Terminal Crane?

An intermodal terminal crane transfers ISO containers between rail wagons, road vehicles and storage or exchange positions without unpacking the cargo. In a fixed rail transfer zone, the primary lifting machine is often a rail-mounted gantry crane (RMG). A rubber-tyred gantry crane (RTG) serves sites that need flexible block allocation; a straddle carrier can combine short-distance movement with stacking.

The purchase decision is determined by the complete transfer path: how many working rail tracks and truck lanes must be spanned, where containers are staged, how trains are switched, and how the terminal operating system dispatches each lift. A port-linked rail terminal may add quayside equipment, but a standalone inland rail-to-road facility does not require a ship-to-shore crane.

Henan Mine Crane supplies rail-mounted gantry cranes, RTG cranes and container straddle carriers for different terminal layouts.

Container Flow from Train to Truck or Yard

A rail-to-road move begins with the wagon stopping inside a protected lifting zone. After the lift path and container locks are confirmed, the spreader picks the box from the wagon, transfers it across the rail bundle and places it on a truck chassis or planned stack position. The reverse move loads an outbound train.

Rail service windows, road-vehicle queues and storage dwell time must be modeled together. A crane sized only for its nominal lift rate can still leave a train waiting when truck exchange positions or yard inventory control become the bottleneck.

container gantry cranes serving a freight terminal transfer yard
Transfer performance depends on synchronized rail, truck and storage capacity.

    Direct rail-to-truck

Prioritize wagon reach, safe truck exchange and short container travel.

    Rail-to-stack

Prioritize stacking height, retrieval logic, rehandles and inventory accuracy.

    Rail-to-rail

Check whether the same crane span covers both train tracks and required buffer positions.

    Intermodal Terminal Crane Selection Considerations

    Track and lane geometry

Set rail centers, train envelope, truck lanes, stack rows, maintenance access and future expansion before fixing the crane span.

    Under-spreader duty

Specify the loaded-container gross mass, spreader and headblock masses, duty cycle, wind case and overload policy separately.

    Peak transfer demand

Use train schedules, peak lifts per hour, operating hours, dwell and rehandles to size the fleet.

    Ground and rail interface

Confirm wheel loads, rail/foundation scope, pavement bearing, drainage and utilities with the civil designer.

    Power and controls

Compare cable-fed electric RMGs with diesel, hybrid or electric RTGs using site power availability and operating profile.

    Operating model

Set cabin, remote or automated operation and define terminal-control handshakes, recovery and manual override.

A fixed, high-volume rail bundle generally favors an RMG. A terminal with changing blocks or staged expansion may favor an RTG. The final selection depends on measured site geometry and an agreed operating model.

    Intermodal Terminal Crane Configurations Compared

Configuration Best-fit duty Principal advantage Critical site requirement
Rail-mounted gantry (RMG) Fixed rail bundle with truck exchange and/or storage lanes Wide fixed coverage and grid-electric operation Rails, foundations, end clearances and rail-track possession
Rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) Changing yard blocks, phased development or shared rail/stack duty Can relocate between operating zones Pavement bearing, turning space, charging or fuel support
Container straddle carrier Short-haul transfer between rail-side exchange and distributed stacks Transport and stacking in one mobile machine Traffic segregation, vehicle routes and maintenance access
Container overhead crane Covered or structurally constrained transfer bay Fixed-area handling where a runway is available Verified building structure, clearances and runway loads

Each configuration needs a project-specific equipment schedule. General-purpose gantry cranes and container cranes should not be treated as interchangeable without a spreader, duty and site-interface review.

Published Container Crane Ranges for Early Screening

Henan Mine Crane publishes the following RMG range for its port-crane product family. These are product-family values, not a guaranteed specification for every intermodal terminal.

Parameter Published RMG range What must be fixed in the RFQ
Rated lifting capacity 35 t, 40.5 t or 50 t; customized options State whether the rating is under the spreader and include accessory weights.
Span 18–35 m or customized Submit track centers, lanes, stack rows and clearance drawings.
Lifting height 12.3–21 m or customized Define railcar and truck envelopes plus required stacking height.
Work class A6–A8 Specify annual cycles and lift spectrum rather than selecting duty from a label alone.
Lifting speed 0–20 m/min Require loaded and empty motion speeds with acceleration and cycle assumptions.

Published range: Henan Mine Crane RMG product data. Final parameters are confirmed through the terminal layout, structural calculations and approved drawings.

Rail Span, Clearance and Throughput Planning

The rail interface controls much of the crane geometry. Draw the live track envelope, adjacent track clearance, wagon height, truck height, maintenance lane and any overhead electrification or signaling constraints before releasing the general arrangement. The crane must fit the highest credible operating container and the required spreader clearance.

Fleet sizing should use peak train arrival patterns, permitted working windows, expected container mix, average rehandles and realistic operating availability. Throughput expressed in TEU or tonnes cannot be converted directly into crane moves without the operating assumptions.

rail-mounted container gantry crane spanning a rail transfer zone
A fixed crane span must cover the rail, truck and buffer positions required by the operating plan.

    Working rail tracks

Track count, centers and train length set span and crane travel.

    Truck exchange

Chassis positions and turn times set lane count and traffic control.

    Storage and peak flow

Dwell, stack tiers, rehandles and peak lifts set fleet duty and redundancy.

    Rail obstructions

Electrification and other overhead assets set lifting clearances and isolation procedures.

RMG vs. RTG for Intermodal Terminals

    Decision factor RMG RTG
Travel path Fixed rails along a planned transfer corridor Tyres allow movement between blocks
Site investment Rail foundations and power distribution must be designed early Pavement, traffic lanes and power/fuel infrastructure are critical
Rail-bundle coverage Good fit for repeated moves over a stable rail layout Useful where rail-side duty shares a broader flexible yard
Expansion Rail alignment sets the operating envelope Equipment can be redeployed if geometry and ground conditions permit
Automation Fixed geometry can simplify positioning and repeatability Automation requires vehicle guidance, geofencing and route control

The lowest equipment price does not determine the lower-cost terminal. Rails, foundations, pavement, power, fuel, labor, maintenance, fleet flexibility and construction phasing belong in the same lifecycle comparison.

Spreaders, Railcar Interface and Load Control

The spreader and headblock are part of the rated lifting system. Define 20 ft, 40 ft and 45 ft handling, single- or twin-lift duty, twistlock confirmation, skew correction, rotation, anti-sway and safe landing logic. Any non-container cargo requires a separately engineered attachment and operating procedure.

    Rail wagon pickup

Confirm wagon position, lock release, adjacent-track restrictions and visibility of the pick point.

    Truck landing

Specify chassis height range, traffic stop positions and anti-collision zones.

    Stack placement

Set maximum tier, approach path, container recognition and mis-stow prevention.

    Exception handling

Define response to failed twistlock status, uneven load, lost communication or power interruption.

Controls should prevent travel or hoist commands that conflict with confirmed spreader and landing states. Acceptance tests should demonstrate these interlocks with representative containers.

Automation, Remote Operation and Terminal Interfaces

Remote operation or automation is a system decision. A terminal operating system issues work orders; the equipment control system validates location, route, spreader state and safe zones; the crane reports completion and exceptions. OCR, positioning and anti-sway may be added according to the operating concept.

The RFQ should specify the interface owner, data fields, latency and fail-safe behavior. Manual recovery, local maintenance mode, remote-station visibility and a clear handover procedure are required when the crane cannot complete a commanded move.

automated container gantry crane with remote monitoring equipment
Control interfaces should be specified alongside equipment and civil works, not added after installation.
    • Work-order acknowledgement and container identity exchange
    • Railcar, chassis and stack-position confirmation
    • Obstacle detection, exclusion zones and emergency-stop integration
    • Cybersecurity, network availability and logged exception recovery

Power, Civil Works and Lifecycle Cost

    Electric RMG

Define incoming voltage, cable-reel or conductor system, peak demand, regeneration treatment and emergency power behavior.

    RTG power options

Compare diesel, hybrid and electric supply against site emissions rules, charging access, operating hours and movement between blocks.

    Civil boundary

Allocate rail beams, pavement, drainage, power trenches, lighting and communications to named contract packages.

    Service and spares

Price critical drives, brakes, spreader parts, tyres or wheel assemblies, remote diagnostics and on-site response.

A like-for-like comparison requires the same capacity, span, stacking height, duty, automation scope, incoterm and acceptance scope. Operating-cost estimates should show electricity or fuel use, maintenance and expected utilization assumptions.

Outdoor Conditions, Wind and Storm Securing

Intermodal yards operate through heat, rain, dust and wind. The approved design basis should state local temperature range, wind conditions, seismic requirements where applicable, corrosion exposure and any dust or snow loading. Outdoor electrical protection and maintenance access should match the site environment.

For rail-mounted equipment, the storm procedure needs a defined wind alarm, operating stop threshold, rail clamps or other restraint, and a secured parking position. For rubber-tyred equipment, the procedure must address parking, brake condition, tie-downs and traffic control. Design wind speeds and restraint loads are project-specific and must be verified in engineering.

    Safety, Standards and Acceptance Testing

Acceptance should test the full transfer sequence, not only the nominal hoist capacity. The agreed package should cover structural and electrical documentation, spreader compatibility, overload protection, limit devices, emergency stops, anti-collision, braking, wind alarms and rescue access. Applicable local crane, electrical and rail-interface requirements are set in the contract.

    Design review

General arrangement, load cases, wheel loads, rail/foundation interface and control philosophy.

    Factory acceptance

Drives, brakes, spreader logic, alarms, simulated faults and documentation.

    Site acceptance

    Intermodal Terminal Crane FAQ

Which crane is normally used at a rail intermodal terminal?

A rail-mounted gantry crane is a common choice where rail tracks and truck or stack positions remain fixed. RTGs can suit terminals that need redeployment between blocks or phased expansion. The choice follows actual geometry and throughput.

What capacity should an intermodal crane have?

Capacity is specified under the spreader for the heaviest approved loaded container, with spreader and headblock masses addressed in the hoist and structural design. Published 35 t, 40.5 t and 50 t product ratings are screening options, not a substitute for a site lift study.

Can one RMG span several rail tracks and a truck lane?

Yes, if the engineered span and clearances cover the entire rail bundle, truck exchange positions and maintenance access. The track centers and operating envelopes must be provided before the crane geometry is fixed.

Can an RTG work in a rail terminal?

Yes. An RTG can serve rail-side exchange and storage where pavement bearing, traffic routes, turning space and safe segregation are designed for the machine.

Can an existing intermodal crane be automated?

Some cranes can accept positioning, remote-operation or automated functions after a structural, electrical, controls, network and safety assessment. Integration and remaining equipment life determine the practical scope.

What is included in an intermodal crane price?

Public numbers may describe a factory machine, a specific stocked unit or a multi-crane contract. A comparable project quote must list the spreader, power system, controls, civil interfaces, transport, erection, testing, training and spares.

What should be tested before handover?

The agreed FAT and SAT should cover rated-load operation, railcar and truck transfers, spreader confirmation, safe zones, wind and fault alarms, emergency stops, recovery procedures and terminal-system handshakes.

    PROJECT BASIS

What Is an Inland Container Depot Crane?

An inland container depot crane transfers, stacks and retrieves ISO containers at an inland container depot (ICD), dry port or intermodal rail terminal. It connects rail wagons, road trucks, storage blocks, inspection positions and empty-container areas without a ship-to-shore interface.

The term describes a facility application rather than one machine type. A fixed, high-volume rail apron commonly favors a rail-mounted gantry crane. Flexible storage blocks or staged development commonly favor a rubber-tyred gantry crane. Lower-throughput start-up yards may use reach stackers, while empty-container and repair zones often use dedicated mobile handlers.

The correct selection therefore begins with the depot operating model: annual TEU, peak train and gate demand, container dwell distribution, required stacking density, rehandle tolerance, rail service pattern, customs status and the date at which expansion must remain possible.

Inland Container Depot Crane Selection Considerations

    Throughput and Peak Windows

Annual TEU alone is insufficient. Peak train discharge, truck appointments, operating shifts, wagon cut length and recovery capacity establish the required hourly moves and crane quantity.

    Rail and Truck Interface

Track count, wagon clearance, electrification, road-truck lanes, chassis queues and transfer-buffer positions determine span, cantilever and operating sequence.

    Container Mix and Dwell

20/40/45 ft mix, gross mass, reefer share, empties, customs holds, hazardous cargo and dwell-time variation affect block zoning, spreader duty and rehandles.

    Land and Storage Density

Available hectares, stack height, row count, fire lanes, reefer access and expansion corridors determine whether mobility or fixed high-density coverage has greater value.

    Civil and Utility Readiness

Ground bearing, axle or wheel loads, rail foundations, drainage, substation capacity, conductor routes and communications infrastructure shape total installed cost.

    Operating Model and Growth

Manual, remote or automated operation, fleet dispatch, maintenance staffing, customs procedures and staged block commissioning should be fixed before final specification.

    ICD Container Handling Systems Compared

System Strongest Fit Main Advantage Main Constraint
Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) Permanent rail apron or stable high-density block Wide coverage, grid power, repeatable travel path and strong automation potential Rails, foundations and block geometry are fixed capital interfaces
Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) Growing depot with several storage blocks Can change blocks and supports phased layout development Pavement, steering, block-change route and power source need control
Reach Stacker Start-up or lower-throughput depot with variable work areas Fast deployment and direct rail, truck and stack access Lower storage density, outreach derating, rehandles and concentrated axle loads
Empty Container Handler Empty storage, repair and inspection area High stacking for light containers with mobile deployment Not a substitute for laden-container duty
Container Straddle Carrier Mobile terminal needing transport plus stacking Reduces handovers between horizontal transport and stack equipment Traffic, lane width, pavement and fleet dispatch become critical
Fixed Container Overhead Crane Covered inspection, transfer or specialist handling bay Controlled fixed-area operation with clear floor routes Limited to the runway envelope and dedicated interfaces

Configuration rule: reach stackers suit flexible start-up operations; RTGs suit relocatable block development; RMGs suit stable rail interfaces and high-density long-term capacity. Many ICDs use a hybrid fleet rather than one equipment type throughout the site.

Crane Duties Across an Inland Container Depot

A rail apron requires predictable wagon access, safe clearance from tracks and a transfer plan that prevents the crane from waiting for trucks. Laden-container blocks prioritize storage density and retrieval sequence. Empty and repair areas prioritize fast sorting, high stacking and workshop access.

Customs inspection and bonded zones require positive container identification, controlled release status and a defined location for opening, scanning or examination. Reefer rows require electrical access without placing personnel in uncontrolled crane or truck paths.

Gate buffers, chassis parking, hazardous-goods segregation, fire routes and maintenance access should be represented on the same layout used to define crane span and travel. Isolated equipment selection cannot correct a conflicting depot flow.

Rail transfer, laden storage, empty handling, inspection and gate exchange create different crane duties within the same depot.

Published Henan Mine Crane RMG and RTG Ranges

These published product-family ranges support concept selection. The contract specification is established from verified loads, geometry, duty spectrum, wind, temperature, electrical supply, applicable code and the required container spreader.

Equipment Family Published Capacity Published Span Published Lift Published Duty
    RMG Container Gantry Crane 35 t, 40.5 t, 50 t or customized 18–35 m or customized 12.3–21 m or customized A6–A8; lifting speed 0–20 m/min
    RTG Container Gantry Crane 35 t, 40.5 t, 50 t or customized 8–35 m or customized 6–21 m or customized A6–A8

Rated load must state whether it applies under the spreader, at the ropes or to another contract reference point. The spreader self-weight, eccentric loading, wind and dynamic effects remain part of the design basis.

Rail Apron, Truck Lane and Block Layout

RMG crane spanning rail tracks and container transfer area at an inland terminal
Track centers, wagon envelope, truck lanes, stack rows and maintenance routes establish the working envelope.

For rail service, the general arrangement should show track centers, wagon and locomotive envelopes, switch locations, signal sightlines, overhead electrification or catenary exclusions, safe access and emergency egress. The crane must not obstruct train assembly or trap road vehicles inside the rail zone.

For road exchange, truck lanes require verified turning paths, chassis alignment, queue capacity, driver-safe zones and protection from gantry travel. Cantilevers can place exchange positions outside the main rail gauge, but increase structural reactions and foundation scope.

Future tracks, block extensions and a second crane should appear on the concept layout even when they are not included in phase one. Early reservations for foundations, conductors, substations and network routes prevent later capacity from being blocked by completed civil works.

ICD Crane Capacity and Fleet Sizing

Crane quantity follows the busiest operating interval, not an annual average. A sizing model should include productive moves, rehandles, housekeeping moves, train cut changes, truck variability, customs holds, operator changes, planned maintenance and a defined outage scenario.

    Demand Inputs
Annual TEU, peak train moves, gate profile, operating days, shifts and wagon cut length.
    Move Content
Direct transfer, stack placement, retrieval, rehandles, empty moves and customs inspection moves.
    Availability Basis
Preventive maintenance, fault allowance, refueling or charging, block change and recovery reserve.
    Acceptance Metric
Moves per operating hour, train completion window, truck cycle target and equipment availability definition.

A simulation or time-and-motion study is appropriate when one crane serves several tracks, when truck arrivals are highly variable or when two cranes share an overlapping rail apron. The study should state every assumption used to support the contracted capacity.

Spreader, Anti-Sway and Depot Control Functions

A telescopic spreader is specified for the required 20 ft, 40 ft and 45 ft containers, twistlock indication, flipper arrangement, sideshift, skew correction and optional rotation. Twin-lift or special cargo duty requires a separate load and operating study.

Anti-sway, controlled acceleration and fine positioning support safer placement on wagons, chassis and stacks. Position references may include encoders, laser systems, GNSS, cameras or other site-specific sensors; performance must be defined at the actual working position and environmental condition.

Container ID, job order, location confirmation, release status and fault data can exchange with terminal, yard or customs systems through a documented interface register. The contract should identify the data owner, message format, network boundary, cybersecurity responsibility and fallback operating mode.

anti-sway RMG crane lifting a container at an inland logistics hub
Spreader functions, anti-sway and positive job confirmation support repeatable rail, truck and stack handling.

    Power, Electrification and Automation Readiness

rubber-tyred gantry cranes for flexible inland container depot blocks
RTG mobility supports phased blocks; RMG electrification supports fixed high-density lanes and repeatable control.

RMG cranes normally suit continuous grid power through a cable reel, festoon or conductor arrangement selected for the travel length and site standard. RTG options can include diesel-electric, hybrid, battery or grid-fed arrangements. Utility capacity, harmonic limits, regeneration, redundancy and emergency recovery belong in the early power study.

Manual cabin or radio operation can be combined with anti-sway, travel positioning and job guidance. Remote or automated operation adds controlled transfer zones, obstacle detection, truck or wagon alignment, equipment-control logic, video coverage, network resilience and formal software acceptance testing.

An automation-ready first phase can reserve structural mounting points, drive and brake performance, PLC capacity, network pathways, position references and safety interfaces. Reserved features should be listed as supplied, wired, programmed or future-only to avoid an ambiguous upgrade scope.

    Civil, Wind and Environmental Interfaces

    Rail and Foundation

RMG wheel loads, rail gauge, straightness, level, settlement, end stops, buffers and storm anchors require coordinated tolerances and survey records.

    Pavement and Drainage

RTG and reach-stacker wheel or axle loads, steering paths, local rutting, drainage falls and buried services should be checked across every operating route.

    Wind and Storm Securing

Operating limits, alarm thresholds, parking orientation, rail clamps, anchors and out-of-service design wind follow verified local data and the agreed structural code.

    Climate and Corrosion

Temperature, dust, altitude, humidity, rainfall, lightning, industrial pollution and de-icing exposure determine materials, coatings, enclosures and component conditioning.

    Maintenance Access

Isolation points, platforms, fall protection, lighting, machinery access, lifting points and component-removal routes support safe planned maintenance.

    Contract Codes

Applicable ISO, FEM, EN, IEC, railway, machinery and local requirements should be listed with a clear document hierarchy and compliance schedule.

    Safety, Security and Customs-Controlled Operations

An inland depot combines heavy equipment, live rail, public road trucks, restricted cargo and human inspection activity. The operating concept should separate people from crane travel, containers and vehicle paths while preserving emergency access and verifiable cargo custody.

    Machine Protection
Overload, limits, brakes, overspeed, emergency stops, travel protection and controlled fault recovery.
    Traffic Separation
Truck guidance, barriers, pedestrian exclusion, rail permissions, warning systems and visibility controls.
    Container Custody
ID confirmation, seal-status process, release authority, audit trail and exception handling.
    Special Cargo
Reefer access, hazardous segregation, damaged units, out-of-gauge loads and inspection isolation.

    Greenfield and Phased ICD Development

Development Stage Typical Handling Approach Capacity Reservation
Start-Up Volume Reach stacker or limited mobile fleet for variable rail, truck and stack work Protect future rails, blocks, substation space and circulation corridors
Growing Depot RTG blocks with mobile equipment retained for inspection and exceptions Prepare pavement, power route, data network and block-change path
Stable High Volume RMG rail apron or high-density electric blocks with controlled transfer lanes Allow second crane, extended runway, redundant power and automation interfaces

A phased master plan should preserve the final traffic pattern from the first civil package. Temporary equipment can serve early demand, but permanent rail, drainage and utility decisions should remain compatible with the long-term handling system.

    5-Million-Tonne Logistics Hub

Henan Mine Crane published a 40.5 t rail-mounted container gantry crane project for Wanli Land Port in Ordos. The land port was planned as a logistics hub for the distribution and transshipment of containers and new-energy-related materials, with a stated annual design target of 5 million tonnes.

The disclosed crane configuration includes a Schneider variable-frequency drive system, Siemens PLC control, intelligent anti-sway and remote operating-status monitoring. Equipment data connects with the land port energy data platform for coordinated logistics information management.

The case illustrates an ICD procurement boundary extending beyond steel structure and hoisting machinery: spreader control, positioning, safety logic, data interfaces and site commissioning must be engineered together. Final output remains dependent on the depot layout, train and truck flow, staffing and contracted acceptance test.

    Inland Container Depot Crane FAQ

What is the best crane for an inland container depot?

An RMG normally fits a permanent high-volume rail apron or dense block. An RTG fits flexible or phased storage blocks. A reach stacker often fits start-up and lower-throughput work. A hybrid fleet can separate rail, laden, empty and exception duties.

How much does an inland container depot crane cost?

Current public references reviewed in September 2026 place 40 t RTGs around US$280,000–350,000 and broad 40–100 t RMG configurations around US$200,000–2,000,000+. Delivered project cost depends on rails or pavement, power, controls, freight, installation and tests.

When should an ICD replace reach stackers with gantry cranes?

The change becomes attractive when land density, peak train completion, fuel and maintenance, rehandles or fleet congestion outweigh the flexibility of mobile handlers. A lifecycle model should compare the same throughput and civil boundary.

Can one RMG serve both rail tracks and storage rows?

Yes, when the span, cantilevers, clearances and operating sequence cover both functions. Fleet studies should verify that train service does not block stack retrieval or truck exchange during peak periods.

What information is needed for an accurate ICD crane quote?

The essential package includes a CAD layout, track and wagon data, stack geometry, throughput profile, container mix, rated-load basis, power supply, wind and climate data, control scope, destination, Incoterm and site-service boundary.

Can an inland depot crane be automated later?

Later automation is feasible when the original structure, drives, braking, PLC, positioning references, networks and safety zones support the upgrade. Automation-ready provisions should be contractually defined during the initial purchase.

POWER PLANT & HYDROPOWER OVERHEAD CRANES

    Generator Maintenance Crane

Lift a generator rotor clear of the unit, carry it to the overhaul floor, then return it within the clearances the OEM requires. That sequence—not the generator’s MW rating—defines the crane.

Henan Mine Crane configures powerhouse overhead cranes around component weights, lifting gear, hook travel and building loads. Main and auxiliary hooks, low-headroom trolleys and synchronized lifting are specified where the lift plan calls for them.

What Is a Generator Maintenance Crane?

A generator maintenance crane is the overhead lifting system used to remove and transfer heavy generator parts during a power-plant outage. It normally spans the turbine hall or hydropower machine hall and serves the unit and overhaul area. The governing load might be the complete rotor, a turbine component or, where replacement is planned, the stator. The overhaul strategy decides whether an exceptional stator lift belongs in the crane specification.

Lifting beams, slings, shackles and other below-hook gear add weight and use headroom. Rotor withdrawal may also require a separate OEM-approved extraction frame or skid arrangement before the overhead hook can take the load. Put those steps on the drawing before ordering the crane.

Lift Information to obtain Crane implication
Generator rotor Assembly mass, center of gravity, lifting points, extraction tooling and maintenance-stand location. Main-hook rating, vertical stroke, hook approach and clear travel path.
Stator or generator-motor assembly Whether removal is required, lifting-point reactions, spreader dimensions and allowable tilt. Potential high-capacity or synchronized lift; assess each hook and runway.
Covers, bearings and auxiliaries Individual masses, pickup locations and lifting frequency. An auxiliary hook or separate service hoist may suit routine jobs.

    Generator Maintenance Applications

The crane should cover the actual dismantling, transfer and reassembly operations on the maintenance schedule. The rotor often needs a separate extraction tool before the bridge crane can lift it.

Operation Lifting route and equipment Crane duty
Rotor overhaul Pick up the rotor from its approved tool or support, clear the unit, move to the service stand and return it. Verify hook access at both ends, rigging height, travel route and precise lowering.
Stator or generator-motor replacement Handle the complete assembly only where the plant plan requires it and lifting points permit. Check total suspended mass, lift-point loads, hook spacing, runway and any synchronization.
Bearings, covers and auxiliaries Move parts between the generator, laydown floor and service positions. Use an auxiliary hook or smaller service hoist where it offers better coverage.
Future unit modernization Remove replacement assemblies after surrounding pipes, platforms and cable routes are complete. Reserve hook approach and clearance for the fully built plant, not only the construction stage.

    Generator Maintenance Crane Selection Considerations

A double-girder, top-running overhead crane is the usual starting point for a heavy generator lift. The number of hooks and their rated duties depend on how the actual component is supported.

Arrangement Suitable lift Critical design check
Main and auxiliary hooks Heavy rotor handling plus smaller covers, bearings and service components. State each hook’s rating and travel envelope separately. The auxiliary hook is not automatically a second lifting point for the main load.
Two synchronized main hooks Large assemblies with two engineered lifting points. Set hook-height difference, load-sharing, fault-response and test criteria.
Two coordinated bridge cranes Exceptional lifts supported by the runways and lift plan. Calculate each crane’s load throughout the motion; nameplate capacities cannot simply be added.
Separate auxiliary crane or hoist Routine work outside the heavy generator lift. Check its supports and coverage independently.

The rated capacity and control scheme are established from approved component and rigging data.

Generator Maintenance Crane Compared with Other Lifting Arrangements

Compare the alternatives against the same rotor weight, lifting points, machine-hall drawing and laydown position.

Arrangement Coverage When it fits Limitation to check
Main double-girder overhead crane Full turbine or machine-hall bay Heavy rotor and generating-unit lifts Runway strength, hook height and end approach
Low-headroom heavy bridge crane Full bay in constrained underground hall Large generator-motor assembly with restricted roof clearance Trolley envelope and maintenance access
Electric-hoist double-girder crane Service or auxiliary bay Smaller components within product rating Not automatically suitable for primary rotor or stator lift
Local electric hoist One station or limited route Covers, bearings, tools and small equipment No full-bay transfer capability

Powerhouse Layout, Headroom and Existing Runway

A crane can have enough rated capacity and still fail the lift. Check the rotor and lifting beam at the highest obstruction, hook position above the machine centerline, the route past platforms and pipework, and the floor area where the load will be set down.

    New powerhouse

Freeze the crane envelope and wheel loads with the building design. Show rail elevation, hook approach, trolley height, walkway and equipment access on a coordinated general arrangement.

    Existing powerhouse

Survey rails, runway beams and supports. The new bridge’s wheel loads, trolley positions and braking forces can differ from the old crane even at the same hook rating.

    Underground hydro hall

Confirm the lift above the generator pit and roof-to-rail depth. A low-headroom arrangement can recover hook height, but it must still permit crane inspection and parts removal.

    Capacity and Technical Parameters

Published Henan Mine Crane catalogue families include the QD hook bridge series below. These are model-family ratings, not preselected generator-maintenance packages. Span, lift, working class, speeds and wheel loads are confirmed against the particular powerhouse.

QD hook bridge catalogue family Nominal main/auxiliary rating Selection note
QD 75/20–100/20 75/20–100/20 t Compare the heaviest suspended maintenance load and auxiliary work.
QD 125/32–250/50 125/32–250/50 t Evaluate rotor or turbine assembly weight and the hall runway.
QD 300/40–350/75 300/40–350/75 t Review major component lifting points, hook coverage and maintenance access.
QD 400/80–450/80 400/80–450/80 t Confirm civil loads, erection access and acceptance scope.
Project-specific high-capacity system 600 t published pumped-storage example Requires a separate engineered configuration; not a catalogue QD rating.

    A “100/20 t” rating denotes a 100 t main hook and a 20 t auxiliary hook; it does not mean 120 t combined lifting capacity.

    Generator Maintenance Crane FAQ

How do I size the crane for a generator rotor?

Use the maximum suspended weight under the agreed rating basis, including the rotor assembly and lifting gear. Confirm pickup geometry, vertical stroke and the route to the maintenance stand. MW output does not determine crane capacity.

    Is a 100 t main hook enough for a 100 t component?

Not on component mass alone. The lifting beam and rigging add weight; the design rules and lift procedure establish the allowable load. Obtain the complete suspended-load schedule first.

Can two cranes lift a generator stator together?

Yes, when a qualified plan verifies the load on each crane and lifting point throughout the operation, plus uneven loading, differential motion, runway reactions, communication and a stop or fault response.

Can the original runway be reused?

Possibly, after structural and condition checks against the new crane’s wheel loads and horizontal forces. A different trolley layout can require strengthening even when the span is unchanged.

What lead time should the project allow?

Set separate dates for drawing approval, fabrication, factory inspection, dispatch, runway readiness, erection and commissioning. The schedule depends on the approved configuration and destination.

What an Engineered Gantry Crane Supplier Must Provide

A gantry crane supplier must convert the handling requirement into a complete load path. The suspended load passes through the hook or attachment, hoist, trolley, bridge girders, legs, end carriages, wheels, rails and foundations or operating surface. Capacity is only one input; span, lifting height, duty, wind, travel length, skew control, ground conditions and site interfaces establish the actual system.

A commercially complete proposal identifies the crane configuration, rated capacity, span, lift, speeds, working class, power supply, control method, environment, structural reactions, safety functions and governing acceptance basis. It also separates crane equipment from rails, foundations, runway power, freight, unloading, erection, commissioning, test weights and statutory inspection. This scope definition allows quotations from different gantry crane companies to be normalized.

Manufacturing capability is evaluated through approved design inputs, material traceability, welding control, dimensional inspection, mechanism selection, electrical documentation, factory testing and packing plans. Project capability is demonstrated through completed installations with comparable capacity, span, duty or operating environment—not through a general product catalogue alone.

Henan Mine Crane supplies standard industrial gantry platforms and project-specific heavy-lift systems. Published product-family ranges support preliminary selection, while the contract specification, approved general arrangement, calculation basis and signed scope schedule control the delivered crane.

    Gantry Crane Product Range

    Single-Girder Gantry Cranes

Electric-hoist systems for general production, warehouses and yards. Published Henan Mine Crane families extend to 32 t and spans up to 35 m, subject to the selected model and project verification.

    Double-Girder Gantry Cranes

Hoist-trolley or process-trolley systems for higher capacity, longer span, demanding duty and improved hook height. Published families extend from 5 t to 500 t.

    Semi-Gantry Cranes

One side travels on an elevated runway and the opposite side travels on a ground rail. The arrangement serves building edges or production areas requiring partial independent support.

    Truss Gantry Cranes

Open-web bridge construction reduces wind area and can suit long outdoor spans, construction yards and precast operations. Published families extend from 5 t to 100 t.

    Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes

Mobile systems provide flexible yard travel without fixed longitudinal rails. Steering, pavement loading, power system, stability and operating route require project-specific coordination.

    Container and Heavy-Lift Gantry Cranes

RMG, RTG, shipbuilding and custom heavy-lift systems combine process-specific spreaders or lifting beams, higher working duty, coordinated drives and advanced control functions.

Published capacity and span ranges are not universal combinations. Long spans, high lifts, high wind exposure, severe duty and special attachments require structural and mechanism calculations before a model is confirmed.

    Engineering and Manufacturing Scope

automated crane girder welding workstation at Henan Mine Crane
Controlled fabrication, dimensional inspection and documented mechanism testing connect the approved design to the finished crane.

A gantry crane is engineered as a coordinated structure rather than assembled from isolated components. Bridge stiffness, leg geometry, wheel base, trolley position, wind load, braking forces and rail tolerances influence wheel reactions and travel behavior. The electrical and control design must match the selected mechanisms, duty cycle and operating environment.

Manufacturing records can include material identification, welding procedures, welder qualifications, nondestructive examination where specified, bridge camber and span inspection, wheel-alignment records, gearbox and brake information, electrical diagrams, coating checks and factory functional tests. Required records and witness points are agreed before production.

    Structural Engineering

Capacity, span, lift, duty, wind, trolley reactions, fatigue, deflection, transport splits and erection method define bridge, leg and end-carriage design.

    Mechanism Selection

Hoist, trolley and gantry travel motors, brakes, gearboxes, wheels, drums, ropes and limits are selected for load spectrum, speed and operating hours.

    Electrical Integration

Panels, VFDs, conductor or cable systems, pendant, radio, cabin or PLC controls are coordinated with voltage, enclosure, alarms and interlocks.

    Quality Planning

Inspection stages, acceptance criteria, hold points, records and release documentation are linked to the contract specification and agreed standards.

    Transport Engineering

Shipping dimensions, lifting points, packing protection, container or break-bulk strategy and assembly sequence are developed before dispatch.

    Site Interface

Rail, foundation, pavement, power, access, erection equipment, test weights and local inspection responsibilities are defined in the scope schedule.

How to Evaluate Gantry Crane Suppliers

Supplier evaluation should compare technical compliance, manufacturing evidence, project control and lifecycle support on the same basis. The lowest initial price can create additional cost when structural interfaces, freight, site services or acceptance documents are omitted.

    01 · Relevant Product Platform

Confirm that the proposed configuration is a proven family for the required capacity, span, duty and environment. A portable gantry and a process gantry require different engineering capability.

    02 · Design Input Control

The quotation should state load, span, lift, working class, speeds, wind condition, power, attachment, control philosophy and structural assumptions.

    03 · Verifiable Manufacturing

Request evidence for structural fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, electrical production, inspection and functional testing relevant to the proposed crane.

    04 · Transparent Scope

Equipment, rails, foundations, electrification, freight, installation, commissioning, training and inspection must be listed as included, optional or excluded.

    05 · Document Package

General arrangement, wheel loads, electrical diagrams, manuals, certificates, inspection records, packing lists and acceptance results require defined submission stages.

    06 · Comparable Project Experience

A useful completed project shares meaningful technical conditions such as heavy capacity, long span, outdoor exposure, process duty or advanced control.

    07 · Installation Method

Erection sequence, lifting equipment, site access, rail survey, alignment, temporary works and test-load arrangements should be established before shipment.

    08 · Service and Parts

Commissioning response, remote support, recommended spares, wear components, troubleshooting information and maintenance training support long-term availability.

Project Case: 700 t Gantry Crane for a Yangtze River Bridge Project

700 ton gantry crane for Yangtze River bridge steel tower construction
A 700 t project crane demonstrates the engineering, fabrication, synchronized control and site-integration capability required for exceptional heavy-lift work.

Henan Mine Crane supplied a 700 t gantry crane for the construction of a major Yangtze River bridge steel tower. The tower reaches approximately 350 m, while principal lifted components were reported in the 500–650 t range. The project required a custom heavy-lift system rather than a standard catalogue configuration.

The procurement significance extends beyond rated capacity. A project of this scale requires controlled structural design, transportable fabrication modules, coordinated lifting mechanisms, synchronized travel, defined wind limits, engineered foundations or rails, erection planning and a project-specific inspection and commissioning program.

Comparable heavy-lift enquiries should include component mass and geometry, lifting points, center of gravity, required travel path, assembly sequence, wind conditions, allowable ground reactions, synchronization tolerance and acceptance authority. These inputs establish the safe operating envelope and contract scope.

    QUOTE BASIS

Load, Span, Lift, Duty & Environment

What Determines a Gantry Crane Price?

A gantry crane price can range from a few thousand US dollars for a small manual portable frame to a project-engineered budget for a large rail-mounted industrial crane. Capacity is important, but it is only one cost variable. Span, lifting height, runway length, duty, hoisting mechanism, cantilevers, outdoor protection, controls and destination compliance can change both equipment price and installed project cost.

Published online prices usually describe portable steel or aluminum frames. The hoist, trolley, electrification, freight and installation may be excluded. Industrial single- and double-girder cranes normally include powered long travel, a hoist or winch trolley, electrical panels and safety devices, but rails, foundations, cable supply, erection and statutory inspection still depend on the contract.

A reliable commercial comparison therefore begins with one technical data sheet and one responsibility matrix. Every bid should state equipment included, excluded site work, trade term, documentation, testing and commissioning. Henan Mine Crane prepares project pricing after confirming these boundaries rather than applying one price to every crane of the same tonnage.

Gantry Crane Types and Their Price Position

    01 · Portable Gantry Crane

A fixed- or adjustable-height frame on casters or wheels for maintenance and workshop lifting. It has the lowest structural cost, but published prices often exclude the hoist and trolley. Capacity, span, height, wheel type and motorization determine the final package.

    02 · Single-Girder Gantry Crane

An electric hoist travels below one main girder supported by two legs. It is generally the most economical powered rail-mounted choice for light and medium industrial duty where capacity, span and operating frequency remain within the approved design range.

    03 · Double-Girder Gantry Crane

Two box girders support a rail-mounted hoist or winch trolley. The configuration carries higher capacity and duty and provides greater lifting height or hook approach, but adds structural steel, trolley machinery, wheel loads, shipping volume and erection work.

    04 · Semi-Gantry Crane

One side travels on an elevated runway and the other on a ground rail. It can reduce the number of supporting legs and use existing building structure, but the elevated runway, building reactions and ground-side foundation must be verified before comparing total cost.

    05 · Truss Gantry Crane

A lattice or truss girder can reduce self-weight and wind area for long-span outdoor service. Fabrication complexity, corrosion protection, bolted shipping sections and site assembly influence whether it is more economical than a box-girder alternative.

    06 · Special and Heavy-Lift Gantry Crane

Shipbuilding, bridge construction, hydropower, precast, container and rubber-tyred systems use project-specific structures, attachments, drives and controls. Their price is developed from engineering scope and site interfaces, not a standard tonnage table.

Gantry Crane Price Ranges by Type and Capacity

The following September 2026 market bands support preliminary budgeting across portable and rail-mounted configurations. They are indicative equipment ranges rather than a fixed Henan Mine Crane offer. Final pricing requires confirmation of capacity, span, lifting height, duty, operating environment, controls, destination and supply boundary.

Configuration Capacity Indicative Equipment Price Commonly Included Important Exclusions or Variables
Portable steel or aluminum gantry 0.25–3 t US$1,300–8,000 Frame, uprights, beam and wheels in basic retail configurations Hoist, trolley, motorization, freight, assembly and proof testing may be separate
Portable industrial gantry 5 t US$5,300–14,700+ Fixed or adjustable steel frame; configuration varies by span and height Many listings exclude hoist and trolley; long spans and tall heights increase cost
Portable industrial gantry 10 t US$15,600–40,000+ Heavy steel frame and industrial wheel arrangement Hoist, powered travel, special casters, freight and installation vary materially
Single-girder rail-mounted gantry 5–10 t US$15,000–30,000 Girder, legs, end carriages, electric hoist, travel drives and basic controls Runway rails, foundations, site power, freight, erection and local acceptance
Semi-gantry crane 5–10 t US$20,000–40,000 Bridge, one ground leg, end carriages, hoist and crane controls Elevated runway, ground rail, building reinforcement and installation
Double-girder rail-mounted gantry 5–10 t US$30,000–60,000 Double-girder structure, legs, trolley, travel drives and controls Rail and foundation works, cantilevers, cabin, outdoor package and site services
Double-girder rail-mounted gantry 16–20 t US$40,000–80,000 Industrial crane equipment for the stated preliminary capacity range Span, lift, duty, trolley type, wind design, shipping sections and destination codes
Heavy-lift or process gantry Above 20 t Project quotation Engineered structure, lifting machinery, controls and contracted safety package Civil works, attachment, automation, logistics, erection, tests and project schedule

Price comparison rule: compare equipment-only bids with equipment-only bids and installed bids with installed bids. A portable frame without a hoist cannot be compared directly with a powered rail-mounted crane.

Match the Gantry Crane Budget to the Application

The lowest-priced structure is not always the lowest-cost solution. A portable crane may suit occasional maintenance inside a workshop, while a powered rail-mounted crane is more appropriate for repetitive yard handling. A semi-gantry arrangement can save floor space, but only when the existing building can accept the elevated runway reactions.

Outdoor operation adds wind, rain, temperature and corrosion requirements. Rail clamps, storm anchors, anemometers, weatherproof electrical equipment, protected motors and the specified coating system should be priced with the crane rather than added after manufacture. Coastal sites require a corrosion strategy based on the actual exposure.

Process attachments also affect price. A hook crane, grab crane, magnetic crane, precast beam crane and container crane may share a rated capacity while using different trolleys, power supplies, control logic and duty classifications.

Technical Specification Required for an Accurate Price

The quotation should be developed from a measurable operating basis. Missing dimensions or duty data force suppliers to make different assumptions, producing prices that appear comparable but describe different cranes.

Specification Item Information to Provide Engineering Decision Price Effect
Maximum gross load Load plus beam, grab, magnet, spreader, hook and every suspended component Rated capacity, hoist, trolley, structure, wheels and brakes Higher gross load increases machinery and structural demand
Span and cantilevers Distance between rail centers and working area required beyond each leg Girder form, section size, leg geometry and transport split Longer span and cantilevers add steel, fabrication and erection work
Lift and headroom Rail level, lowest pickup, highest set-down and required clearance Hoist or winch layout, rope capacity and overall crane height Greater lift changes drum, rope, frame and shipping requirements
Runway length and travel route Rail length, end approaches, curves or crossings and operating surface Travel drive, cable supply, rail type, buffers and alignment tolerance Long runways increase rails, electrification, civil work and installation
Duty and load spectrum Lifts per hour, average load, full-load frequency, shifts and annual hours Working class, fatigue design, motors, brakes and component life High utilization can cost more than a larger occasional-use crane
Hoisting mechanism Required speed, positioning, main or auxiliary hooks and attachment Electric hoist, sitting trolley, open winch or process mechanism Trolley architecture materially changes price and maintenance scope
Controls and automation Pendant, radio, cabin, VFD, PLC, anti-sway and plant interfaces Electrical architecture, sensors, communications and operator station Automation and precision require additional hardware and validation
Outdoor environment Wind data, temperature, rain, dust, corrosion, altitude and coastal exposure Anchors, clamps, anemometer, enclosures, heating, cooling and coating Site protection should be engineered into the original package
Rails and foundations Soil or slab data, allowable loads, rail detail and civil boundary Wheel arrangement, maximum reactions and foundation concept Civil and rail work can be a major project cost outside crane supply
Codes and acceptance Destination, governing standards, inspection body and witness requirements Compliance matrix, documentation, FAT, load test and certification plan Special documentation and third-party inspection affect price and schedule

    Single-Girder Product-Family Range

Henan Mine Crane product data covers 1–32 t capacity, 4–35 m span and 4–12 m lift for the principal electric-hoist range. Final values follow the approved project.

    Double-Girder Product-Family Range

    MG double-girder product data covers 5–500 t capacity, 8–40 m span, 6–30 m lift and A3–A8 duty, subject to project-specific engineering.

Six Cost Drivers That Change the Crane Price

    Capacity and Duty Are Separate

Rated load sizes the crane, while the load spectrum and operating frequency establish fatigue and thermal duty. A frequently cycled 10 t crane can require a more substantial mechanism than an occasional-use 20 t crane.

Span Changes More Than Steel Weight

Increasing span affects girder depth, stiffness, wheel loads, shipping sections, leg geometry and erection method. The working width and rail-center span should be defined separately.

    Hoist or Winch Trolley Selection

Packaged electric hoists reduce initial cost for general duty. Open-winch trolleys support higher capacity, lift, duty, redundancy and process customization but require more engineering and maintenance access.

    Outdoor and Wind Protection

Operational wind limits, storm anchoring, rail clamps, anemometers, weatherproof cabinets, heaters, cooling and coatings should match site conditions. These features affect both crane price and civil design.

    Power and Control Architecture

Long-travel cable reels, conductor systems, festoons, diesel-electric or hybrid power, radio control, cabins, VFDs, PLCs and automation create different equipment and commissioning scopes.

    Shipping and Site Assembly

Girder shipping splits, containerization, oversize transport, site cranes, welding, bolting, rail alignment and load-test weights influence the delivered and installed cost beyond factory equipment price.

semi gantry crane illustrating equipment and installed project cost
The crane price and the installed project cost are different commercial values.

Equipment Price, Landed Cost and Installed Cost

The equipment price covers only the items named in the supplier schedule. It may include the steel structure, hoist or trolley, travel mechanisms, electrical panels, pendant or radio control and crane-mounted electrification. It may exclude rails, foundations, power feed, attachment, packing, freight and site work.

Landed cost adds export packing, inland transport, ocean or road freight, insurance, import handling, duties and taxes under the agreed trade term. Large gantry girders can require split construction, open-top containers, flat racks, breakbulk transport or project cargo planning. Shipping design should be agreed before fabrication.

Installed cost adds civil works, rail installation, electrical supply, erection equipment, skilled labor, alignment, commissioning, load testing, statutory inspection and training. A complete budget should also identify spare parts, planned maintenance and future relocation or dismantling where applicable.

    Documented Heavy-Lift Application

700 t Gantry Crane for a Yangtze River Bridge Project

Henan Mine Crane documented a 700 t engineering gantry crane for steel-tower construction at the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge. The project involved lifting and positioning main steel-tower sections in the 500–650 t class for a bridge tower approximately 350 m high.

This scale of crane cannot be budgeted from a standard price-per-ton formula. Component geometry, lifting sequence, span, lift, wind conditions, foundations, positioning requirements, transport sections, erection method and project schedule form one engineering basis.

The project illustrates why heavy-lift pricing includes structural analysis, lifting machinery, controls, manufacturing verification, logistics planning, site assembly and acceptance. The same commercial principle applies at smaller capacities whenever the crane is integrated with civil works or a production process.

Gantry Crane Quotation Levels and Supply Scope

A useful quotation states where supplier responsibility ends and buyer responsibility begins. The following levels should not be compared as if they describe the same purchase.

Quotation Level Typical Included Scope Items Commonly Outside the Price Best Use
Portable frame only Beam, uprights, braces and caster or wheel assemblies Hoist, trolley, electrification, powered travel, freight and assembly Initial workshop equipment comparison
Crane equipment package Structure, legs, end carriages, hoist or trolley, drives, controls and crane-mounted electrification Rails, foundations, incoming power, freight, erection and site acceptance Factory-equipment purchasing with local site contractors
Delivered crane package Crane equipment, contracted documentation, export packing and agreed freight scope Customs, taxes, destination unloading, civil works, erection and testing unless listed Landed-cost planning under a defined trade term
Installed project package Crane, defined rails and electrification, erection supervision or installation, commissioning and acceptance support Only items explicitly assigned to the buyer in the final responsibility matrix Total-project comparison and management approval

A technically lower price can produce a higher final project cost when rails, foundations, power distribution, freight or acceptance services are omitted. Commercial evaluation should normalize every bid to the same supply boundary.

    Gantry Crane Price FAQ

How much does a gantry crane cost?

Current public prices range from about US$1,300 for small basic portable frames to US$80,000 for preliminary 16–20 t double-girder equipment bands. Larger and process-specific cranes require project quotations.

Why do two gantry cranes with the same capacity have different prices?

Span, lift, duty, hoist or trolley type, cantilevers, runway length, controls, wind design, corrosion protection, standards and included services can differ even when rated capacity is identical.

Does a portable gantry crane price include the hoist?

Often it does not. Many retail prices cover only the frame, beam, uprights and wheels. The product schedule should confirm the hoist, trolley, electrification, end stops, freight and assembly.

What is the typical 5 ton gantry crane price?

Published 5 t portable frames are approximately US$5,300–14,700 or more. Preliminary 5 t powered industrial equipment bands are about US$15,000–25,000 for single girder and US$30,000–45,000 for double girder.

What is the typical 10 ton gantry crane price?

Published 10 t portable industrial cranes are approximately US$15,600–40,000 or more. Preliminary powered equipment bands are about US$18,000–30,000 for single girder and US$35,000–60,000 for double girder.

Is a single-girder gantry crane always cheaper?

It normally uses less structural steel and a simpler hoist arrangement, but suitability depends on capacity, span, lift and duty. A forced single-girder design can become inefficient when the application requires greater stiffness or hook height.

Does the quoted crane price include foundations and rails?

Only when explicitly listed. Foundation design, concrete, reinforcement, rail beams, rails, clips, grounding, drainage and alignment are frequently separate site scopes.

How much does shipping add to gantry crane cost?

Shipping depends on girder length, weight, containerization, port route, destination and trade term. Long or heavy sections may require flat-rack, open-top, breakbulk or project-cargo transport.

Can an existing concrete slab support a portable gantry crane?

The floor must be checked for wheel loads, slab capacity, flatness, joints and movement route. A portable crane does not automatically eliminate structural verification or operational restrictions.

What is the fastest way to obtain an accurate price?

Submit capacity, load details, span, lift, runway length, duty, power, controls, wind and environment data, site drawings, destination, standards and a clear supply-scope matrix.

Henan Mine Crane · Electrified Gantry Lifting Systems

Electric Gantry Crane for Industrial Material Handling

Engineered electric gantry cranes combine powered hoisting, controlled load travel and a self-supporting gantry structure for workshops, fabrication yards, precast plants, warehouses and outdoor material-handling routes.

Single-girder, double-girder, semi-gantry and offset-leg configurations are developed around rated load, span, lifting height, runway length, operating duty, power supply, wind conditions and site interfaces. Each proposal defines the crane equipment, rail system, electrical boundary, documentation and commissioning scope.

double girder electric gantry crane for industrial outdoor lifting
Electric-hoist and winch-trolley arrangements are selected from load, duty, span, lift and operating environment.

What Is an Electric Gantry Crane?

An electric gantry crane is a self-supporting or partly self-supporting lifting system in which the hoisting motion and one or more travel motions use electric drives. The bridge is carried by rigid or flexible legs instead of relying entirely on an overhead building runway. Full gantry cranes run on two ground rails; semi-gantry cranes use one ground rail and one elevated runway. Compact mobile units may travel on industrial wheels when the floor, route and operating restrictions permit.

Three motions normally define the handling cycle: vertical hoisting, cross travel along the bridge and long travel along the runway or floor route. Electric motors, brakes, reducers, limit devices and controls coordinate these motions. Electric power improves repeatability and productivity compared with manually moved frames, but it also requires a defined electrification method, protective devices, earthing, cable management and commissioning plan.

The term does not describe one standard crane. An electric hoist gantry crane supports economical general-duty handling, while an open-winch trolley serves higher capacity, longer lift, intensive duty or process requirements. Rail-mounted cranes provide controlled travel over a fixed route. Motorized mobile gantries serve shorter routes only after floor capacity, wheel loading, stability and movement controls have been verified. Selection begins with the load and work cycle rather than the motor rating alone.

    Electric Gantry Crane Types

    01 · Single-Girder Electric Hoist Gantry

One main girder carries an underslung electric wire-rope or chain hoist. The arrangement controls deadweight and equipment cost for general manufacturing, warehousing, assembly and maintenance duties.

    02 · Double-Girder Electric Hoist Gantry

Two girders provide greater structural stability, improved lifting-height utilization and broader capacity potential while retaining the service simplicity of a packaged electric hoist or sitting trolley.

    03 · Double-Girder Winch-Trolley Gantry

A top-running open-winch trolley supports higher load, longer lift, faster speeds, heavier duty, auxiliary hooks and redundant machinery arrangements required by demanding industrial processes.

    04 · Electric Semi-Gantry Crane

One end carriage travels on an elevated building runway and the opposite end travels on a ground rail. The layout serves workshop edges, production bays and indoor-to-outdoor transfer routes.

    05 · L-Type Electric Gantry Crane

An offset L-shaped leg improves side clearance for long materials and permits cantilever handling. Hook, grab or magnetic attachments can be integrated for the approved operating duty.

06 · Motorized Mobile Gantry Crane

Powered wheels support controlled relocation in maintenance or assembly areas. Capacity, travel surface, gradients, wheel loads, wind exposure and safe movement procedures limit the permissible application.

    Compare Electric Gantry Crane Configurations

Configuration Typical Application Duty Position Principal Advantage Engineering Boundary
Single-girder electric hoist General light- and medium-capacity handling Low to moderate Lower self-weight, compact mechanism and economical structure Span, hook approach, headroom and duty must remain within the selected hoist system
Double-girder electric hoist Medium-capacity production, yards and maintenance Moderate Stable bridge, improved lift geometry and accessible trolley arrangement Hoist duty and wheel loads require confirmation at the operating cycle
Double-girder winch trolley Heavy, high-lift or intensive industrial service Moderate to high Custom speeds, auxiliary hook, higher duty and machinery redundancy options Higher engineering, structural, electrical and maintenance scope
Semi-gantry Workshop edge and indoor-to-outdoor transfer Low to high Reduces one line of ground legs and preserves floor access Building runway capacity, rail elevations and lateral forces require verification
L-type offset gantry Long products, loading lanes and side transfer Low to moderate Open leg geometry and practical cantilever coverage Offset reactions, load swing and transfer clearances affect structural design
Motorized mobile gantry Maintenance cells and flexible short-route handling Intermittent to moderate Relocatable coverage without a permanent runway Floor condition, slope, wheel traction, stability and outdoor wind restrict movement

Selection principle: packaged electric hoists control cost for general duty; open-winch trolleys support higher capacity, longer lift, intensive service, redundancy and process-specific control.

Match the Electric Gantry Crane to the Application

Application Starting Configuration Handled Material Critical Selection Data
Workshop fabrication Single-girder electric hoist gantry Steel assemblies, machines and fixtures Bay width, hook approach, floor route and production frequency
Outdoor material yard Rail-mounted single- or double-girder gantry Plate, sections, equipment and packaged materials Wind, drainage, rail alignment, corrosion protection and storm parking
Precast concrete yard Double-girder electric or winch-trolley gantry Beams, slabs, moulds and reinforcement cages Member geometry, lifting beam, synchronized points, duty and yard coverage
Warehouse or logistics area Compact single-girder or semi-gantry crane Palletized equipment, dies and maintenance loads Aisle clearance, positioning, radio control and traffic separation
Steel fabrication line Double-girder or L-type electric gantry Long sections, pipes, coils and fabricated modules Attachment, cantilever reach, side clearance and load-control method
Construction project Project-specific electric gantry system Bridge sections, tunnel components and heavy modules Temporary foundations, relocation, erection sequence and project schedule

Application matching also defines the control philosophy. Occasional maintenance lifts may use pendant control, while production handling often benefits from radio control and variable-frequency drives. A cabin may be specified for long travel routes, process visibility or harsh environments. Automation, anti-sway, positioning and plant communication are developed only after the material flow and exclusion zones are documented.

    Technical Selection and Specification Framework

A technically comparable quotation requires one operating basis for every supplier. Rated capacity must include the lifted item and all below-hook equipment. Span is measured between rail centers, while working width includes any required cantilever coverage. Lifting height must reflect the lowest pickup point, highest set-down point and available structural clearance.

Specification Item Required Project Data Resulting Engineering Decision
Maximum gross suspended load Load, lifting beam, sling, grab, magnet, spreader and every suspended component Capacity, hoist, trolley, girder, legs, wheels and brakes

Duty and load spectrum Lifts per hour, average load, full-load frequency, shifts and annual operating hours Working class, fatigue basis, motor rating, brake duty and component life
Speeds and positioning Hoist, trolley and crane speeds plus required low-speed control Motor power, VFD range, braking and positioning devices
Electrical supply Voltage, frequency, phases, available fault level and plant connection point Panels, protection, transformers, cable sizing and electrification
Environment Indoor or outdoor, wind, temperature, rain, dust, humidity, altitude and corrosive exposure Enclosures, heaters, cooling, coatings, anchors and weather protection

    Double-Girder Electric-Hoist Product Family

Henan Mine Crane product data covers 3–50 t capacity, 7.5–35 m span, 4–30 m lifting height and A3–A5 working class. Final limits depend on the approved configuration and project standard.

    Single-Girder Semi-Gantry Product Family

Product data covers 1–32 t capacity, 6–35 m span, 4–20 m lifting height and A3–A5 working class. The elevated runway and ground rail form part of the interface review.

    L-Type Electric-Hoist Product Family

Product data covers 1–32 t capacity, 6–35 m span, 4–20 m lifting height and A3–A5 working class, with cantilever and attachment options evaluated for the operating case.

    Safety, Controls and Electrical Protection

Safety functions are selected from the risk assessment, operating method, crane duty and governing rules. The final design should distinguish normal control, protective limiting, emergency stopping and storm security. A device list alone does not replace calculation, validation, commissioning or operator procedures.

    Load and Hoist Protection

Overload limiting, upper and lower travel limits, brake monitoring where required, rope guidance, hook safety latch and controlled low-speed positioning protect the vertical lifting motion.

    Travel Protection

End limits, buffers, audible and visual warnings, emergency stops, travel brakes and anti-collision functions are selected for route length, traffic and multiple-crane operation.

    Variable-Frequency Control

VFD control provides progressive acceleration, reduced load swing, controlled approach and lower mechanical shock. Speed ranges are matched to motor cooling and process demand.

    Outdoor Wind Security

Anemometers, operational wind limits, rail clamps, storm anchors, parking positions and site procedures control wind risk for rail-mounted outdoor cranes.

    Electrical Protection

Isolation, short-circuit and overload protection, phase monitoring, earthing, enclosure selection and cable management are coordinated with the plant supply and environment.

    Skew and Position Control

Long spans, high travel speeds or uneven wheel loading may require encoder feedback, independent-drive coordination, anti-skew logic or position supervision.

    Structure, Headroom and Electrification

Box girders provide torsional stiffness and controlled deflection for industrial rail-mounted cranes. A single-girder bridge reduces self-weight and wheel reactions, while a double-girder bridge supports top-running trolley arrangements, improved hook height and heavier service. One leg may be rigid and the opposite leg flexible on longer spans to accommodate thermal movement and rail tolerances.

Headroom is governed by the relationship between rail level, bridge depth, trolley or hoist position, hook approach and the highest required load position. Raising the overall frame is not always the most economical solution because leg height, wind moment, stability, shipping and erection requirements also increase. A section drawing should confirm vertical and side clearances before fabrication.

Common electrical feeds include cable reels, festoon systems, conductor bars and project-specific trailing-cable arrangements. The selected method follows runway length, travel speed, outdoor exposure, maintenance access and plant connection point. Standard product families can be configured for 380 V, 50 Hz or project supplies within 220–660 V and 50/60 Hz, subject to electrical review.

Girder geometry, hoist position, leg form and electrification are coordinated with the required working envelope.

Project Case: 700 t Gantry Crane for Bridge Construction

    Documented Heavy-Lift Application

Henan Mine Crane supplied a 700 t project-specific gantry crane for construction work associated with the Zhangjiagang Yangtze River Bridge. The system handled large steel tower sections, placing the lifting operation far beyond the duty of a standard packaged electric-hoist gantry crane.

The case demonstrates the engineering sequence required when load geometry, lifting points, construction stages and site boundaries control the crane concept. Structural arrangement, lifting machinery, electric drives, travel coordination, foundations, erection method and acceptance planning must be treated as one system. Rated tonnage alone cannot define a heavy-lift gantry.

The same discipline applies at smaller capacities. A reliable electric gantry crane proposal should identify the suspended load, work cycle, coverage, duty, wind basis, rail interface, power feed, control method and testing boundary before price and delivery are fixed. The 700 t installation represents a specialized project application and is not a standard-range price example.

700 tonne gantry crane for bridge steel tower construction
Large bridge components require integrated structural, mechanical, electrical and site-interface engineering.

    Engineering Deliverables and Quality Records

robot welding workstation for gantry crane box girder fabrication
Controlled fabrication and traceable inspection records support the approved crane design and acceptance plan.

A commercial proposal should identify the design basis and the documents delivered with the equipment. Typical engineering outputs include the general arrangement, wheel loads, maximum rail reactions, foundation interface, power demand, motor list, single-line diagram, control description and shipping split. Final documentation follows the contract, destination rules and acceptance authority.

Manufacturing control normally covers material identification, welding procedures, dimensional inspection, machining, assembly, coating preparation and electrical-panel verification. Non-destructive examination, third-party witness points and material certificates are included when specified in the inspection and test plan. Factory testing should record hoist, trolley and crane motions, limits, brakes, controls and protective functions available before shipment.

Procurement review should confirm drawing approval stages, deviation handling, document language, spare-parts list, test records and release criteria. This evidence establishes traceability between the approved specification and the delivered crane and prevents essential documentation from becoming an undefined post-order item.

    Installation, Commissioning and Lifecycle Planning

Site preparation begins before shipment. Ground rails require verified foundations, level and gauge tolerances, drainage, end stops and an agreed installation datum. Semi-gantry cranes also require confirmation of elevated-runway alignment and building reactions. Mobile cranes require a floor survey covering capacity, flatness, joints, gradients, obstructions and the complete travel route.

    Before Delivery

Approve drawings, rail details, wheel loads, electrical connection, access route, lifting plan, temporary works and storage protection. Confirm whether girders arrive as complete units or shipping sections.

    Erection and Alignment

Assemble the structure under an approved lifting method, align rails and end carriages, verify diagonal dimensions, set buffers and anchors, route cables and complete electrical termination.

    Commissioning and Acceptance

Check insulation, earthing, phase sequence, limits, brakes, controls, warning devices and no-load motions before functional and load testing under the governing acceptance plan.

    Operating Handover

Provide operating instructions, maintenance schedules, lubrication points, electrical drawings, parts information and training for operators and maintenance personnel.

    Planned Maintenance

Inspect ropes or chains, hooks, brakes, wheels, rails, fasteners, structure, electrification and protective devices at intervals based on duty, environment and governing requirements.

    Lifecycle Provision

Define critical spares, consumables, remote technical support, inspection access and future relocation requirements during procurement rather than after commissioning.

Electric Gantry Crane Price and Supply Scope

Electric gantry crane prices vary because the same keyword covers compact mobile frames, rail-mounted electric-hoist cranes and custom heavy-lift systems. The following September 2026 market bands support preliminary budgeting only. They are not fixed Henan Mine Crane offers. Currency, steel content, duty, destination, trade term and installation boundary can move a project outside these ranges.

Electric gantry crane is the broader term and may describe powered hoisting, powered trolley travel and powered long travel. Motorized gantry crane usually emphasizes powered relocation or long travel, including mobile or rail-mounted arrangements.

Is an electric gantry crane suitable for outdoor operation?

Yes, when wind basis, storm parking, rail clamps or anchors, drainage, corrosion protection, enclosure ratings, cable system and temperature limits are engineered for the site. Standard indoor electrical equipment should not be assumed suitable outdoors.

When is a double-girder configuration required?

Double girders are considered when capacity, span, lifting height, hook approach, duty, trolley arrangement or attachment exceeds the practical range of a single-girder electric-hoist system. Final selection follows calculation and lifecycle requirements.

Can an electric gantry crane operate without ground rails?

A mobile unit can operate on suitable wheels over an approved surface, but capacity, floor loading, slope, traction, stability, travel speed and wind exposure impose limits. Industrial repetitive travel normally favors a properly aligned rail system.

    Which control method is available?

Pendant, radio remote and operator cabin controls are available. Variable-frequency drives, PLC functions, anti-sway, anti-collision and position supervision can be added when the handling process and risk assessment require them.

How is the required electrical power calculated?

Power demand follows hoist, trolley and crane motor ratings, simultaneous-motion assumptions, duty, acceleration, auxiliary loads and starting method. The proposal should state connected load, supply data and the crane-to-plant connection boundary.

What information has the greatest effect on price?

Capacity, span, lift, duty, hoist or winch-trolley type, runway length, outdoor package, control complexity, rails, foundations, shipping dimensions and installation scope create the largest differences.

How long does manufacture and commissioning take?

Schedule depends on engineering complexity, drawing approval, material procurement, fabrication, inspection, shipping route, site readiness and acceptance requirements. A committed date should follow confirmation of the final technical and commercial scope.

What Is a Double Girder Overhead Crane?

A double girder overhead crane uses two parallel bridge girders carried by end trucks that travel along elevated runways. A trolley or electric hoist travels across the bridge, creating three powered motions: vertical lifting, cross travel and long travel. The same equipment family is also described as a double girder bridge crane, double girder EOT crane or double girder overhead travelling crane.

The two-girder structure provides a stable platform for higher loads, longer spans, demanding operating cycles and larger trolley mechanisms. A top-running trolley can move above or between the girders, which often improves the highest hook position compared with an underslung hoist arrangement. Walkways, maintenance platforms, operator cabins, service hoists and process equipment can also be integrated when the approved design requires them.

Double girder construction is not automatically required at every capacity. A single-girder crane can remain more economical where load, span, duty and headroom are moderate. Double girder selection becomes commercially justified when the required capacity, bridge stiffness, lifting height, trolley arrangement, service access or process function cannot be achieved efficiently with a lighter configuration.

The crane and its runway operate as one structural system. Bridge self-weight, trolley position, lifted load, acceleration, braking, skewing and impact generate vertical, lateral and longitudinal forces. Final wheel loads and support reactions must be coordinated with runway beams, columns, brackets and foundations before fabrication.

    Double Girder Overhead Crane Configurations

    01 · Electric-Hoist Double Girder Crane

A compact electric wire-rope hoist travels on a trolley arrangement supported by two girders. The configuration suits general industrial handling where moderate capacity, controlled cost and relatively simple maintenance have priority.

    02 · Open-Winch Double Girder Crane

A purpose-designed trolley carries separate drum, motor, gearbox, brakes, sheaves and controls. This architecture supports higher capacity, longer lift, demanding duty, redundancy and process-specific reeving.

    03 · Double-Trolley Overhead Crane

Two independently controlled trolleys provide separated lifting points for long loads, load turning, synchronized lifting or multiple production tasks. The control philosophy defines independent, coordinated and restricted operating modes.

    04 · Low-Headroom Double Girder Crane

An optimized trolley and bridge arrangement maximizes upper hook elevation where roof clearance is limited. Girder depth, trolley envelope, walkway access and runway level require coordinated review.

05 · Process Double Girder Crane

Grab, magnet, clamp, rotating beam, C-hook, ladle beam or other attachments convert the crane into a process machine. Structure, mechanisms, controls and safety provisions are selected around the handled material.

06 · Automated Double Girder Crane

Position feedback, PLC control, anti-sway, collision management and plant interfaces support repeatable semi-automatic or unmanned cycles. Manual recovery and maintenance modes remain part of the control design.

A packaged electric hoist and an open-winch trolley are not interchangeable price alternatives. The open-winch platform is selected when reeving, braking, duty, redundancy, speed range, maintenance access or process risk exceeds the capability of a standard packaged hoist.

A project configuration should identify the trolley type, number of hooks, reeving, working class, motion speeds, control mode and service access before commercial comparison.

    Selection Considerations

A reliable specification starts with the lifting process and building section, not with a catalogue model. The following inputs establish the technical and commercial basis for a double girder overhead crane proposal.

    01 · Gross Suspended Load

Record maximum payload, normal payload, lifting beam, hook block, slings, clamps, magnets and every component carried below the trolley. Rated capacity follows the maximum approved suspended load.

02 · Span and Travel Coverage

State runway rail-center span, bay travel length, pickup and placement zones, side approach, end approach and any maintenance or transfer areas.

    03 · Lift and Headroom

Define lowest pickup level, highest hook position, rail elevation, roof obstruction, load height, rigging depth and any extraction distance above machinery.

04 · Duty and Load Spectrum

Provide lifts per hour, shifts, annual operating hours, travel distances, average load and frequency of lifts near rated capacity. Working class follows actual service.

    05 · Runway and Building

Confirm rail type, runway beams, column spacing, brackets, foundations, allowable reactions and existing structural information. Crane capacity alone cannot validate the runway.

    06 · Motion and Positioning

Specify lifting, trolley and bridge speeds, low-speed range, stopping behavior, positioning tolerance, variable-frequency control and anti-sway requirements.

    07 · Load Handling Function

Identify hook, grab, magnet, clamp, rotating beam, ladle beam or another attachment together with load dimensions, center of gravity and pickup method.

    08 · Environment and Acceptance

Define temperature, dust, corrosion, hazardous classification, indoor or outdoor service, governing requirements, inspection authority and commissioning boundary.

Commercial control: rated capacity, span and lift are insufficient without working class, runway data, trolley architecture, attachment details and a written supply boundary.

Double Girder Compared with Other Overhead Crane Configurations

Configuration Structural Arrangement Typical Duty Capacity Position Primary Decision Point
Double girder with electric hoist Two bridge girders; packaged wire-rope hoist General industrial loads requiring stronger bridge stiffness or improved hook height Moderate to high within the approved hoist range Hoist duty, trolley arrangement, wheel loads and maintenance clearance
Double girder with open-winch trolley Two girders; purpose-designed trolley and reeving Heavy loads, long lift, high duty and process handling High to very high project-specific capacity Reeving, brakes, redundancy, access, heat load and control architecture
Single girder overhead crane One bridge girder; normally underslung hoist Routine workshop, assembly, maintenance and warehouse handling Light to moderate project range Lower self-weight and cost when capacity, span, duty and headroom permit
Double-trolley overhead crane Two trolley or hoist units on one bridge Long loads, rotation, synchronized lifting and separated pick points Project-specific combined and individual loads Load sharing, synchronization, collision zones and allowable combined operation
Underhung double girder crane Bridge suspended below multiple runway supports Large clear-floor buildings, hangars and special assembly areas Project-specific Roof reactions, support alignment, load distribution and suspended connections
Double girder gantry crane Two girders carried by legs running on ground rails Outdoor yards or facilities without an elevated runway structure Moderate to very high project range Wind, rail foundations, skew control, storm protection and clear travel path

    Technical Specification Framework

The published general electric-hoist family provides a preliminary selection envelope. The approved technical proposal controls final values, and open-winch or special-purpose cranes are engineered beyond the standard family when required.

Parameter Preliminary Range or Option Engineering Basis Quotation Requirement
Rated capacity 3–32 t for the published general electric-hoist family; engineered capacities available Gross suspended load including all below-hook equipment State main and auxiliary hook capacities separately
Span Up to 31.5 m for the published general family Runway rail centerline to centerline Confirm actual building bay and end approaches
Lifting height 3–10 m for the published general family; project-specific lifts available Lowest pickup to highest required hook elevation Include load and rigging depth
Working class A3–A6 for the published general family Load spectrum, starts, travel and annual service Mechanism classes may differ from whole-crane class
Hoisting mechanism Electric wire-rope hoist or engineered open-winch trolley Capacity, duty, lift, speed, redundancy and environment Define main, auxiliary and maintenance hooks
Control mode Pendant, radio remote or operator cabin Visibility, travel distance, process risk and site practice Multiple modes require authority and transfer logic
Power supply Three-phase 380 V, 50 Hz baseline; project supply coordinated separately Country grid, voltage tolerance, frequency and earthing Transformer or conversion scope stated in the quotation
Runway interface Top-running rails and building-supported or freestanding runway Wheel loads, rail, beam, columns, brackets and foundations Runway scope and structural approval separated commercially

Special cranes for molten metal, hazardous areas, magnetic loads, bulk handling or automated production require a dedicated parameter sheet. General product-family values must not be transferred to a process crane without review.

    Hoisting, Travel and Control System

Mechanism architecture determines operating performance, maintenance workload and lifecycle risk. Every motion should be selected from the declared load spectrum and production cycle.

    Hoist or Open-Winch Trolley

Packaged hoists control cost and simplify general service. Open-winch trolleys provide configurable drums, reeving, brakes, speeds and redundancy for heavy or high-duty operation.

    Main and Auxiliary Hoists

An auxiliary hook supports faster handling of lighter loads, maintenance work and load orientation. Combined-load restrictions and hook separation must be documented.

    Variable-Frequency Drives

Controlled acceleration, deceleration and low-speed operation reduce load swing and mechanical shock. Drive settings follow motor, brake, gearbox and process requirements.

    Brakes and Holding Functions

Service and holding brakes are selected around load consequence, duty and applicable requirements. Monitoring or redundant arrangements are added where the process demands them.

    Travel and Skew Control

Matched end-carriage drives, wheel geometry, rail alignment and optional feedback control support stable bridge travel. Mechanical alignment remains essential even with electronic correction.

    Positioning and Anti-Sway

Encoders, laser positioning, zone control and anti-sway functions support repeatable placement. Required accuracy and fallback behavior must be defined before control design.

    Operator Interface

Pendant, radio and cabin controls are selected around visibility, travel distance, heat, dust and process risk. Alarms, indicators and authorization levels form part of the interface.

    Safety and Compliance

Overload protection, limits, emergency stop, buffers, end stops, travel warning and electrical protection form the base system. Additional functions follow the hazard assessment and governing standard.

Top-running multiple-girder cranes with top-running trolley hoists fall within the scope of ASME B30.2 where that standard governs the project. EN, ISO, FEM, national regulations or owner specifications may also apply. The contract should identify the governing edition, certification boundary, inspection authority and acceptance procedure.

    Applications and Working Conditions

Industry Typical Load Recommended Direction Operating Objective Critical Project Input
Heavy manufacturing and fabrication Machines, weldments, dies, fixtures and large assemblies Electric-hoist or open-winch double girder crane Stable full-bay lifting and controlled positioning Maximum load, assembly sequence, duty and hook approach
Steel mill and foundry Ladles, slabs, coils, billets, rolls, scrap and maintenance equipment Process double girder crane with dedicated attachment High duty, heat resistance and process-specific safety Material temperature, attachment, redundancy and operating class
Power and energy equipment Generators, turbines, transformers, nacelles and hubs Open-winch or double-trolley double girder crane Heavy component assembly and maintenance with precise movement Load geometry, lifting points, synchronized motion and maintenance lift
Paper and process plant Rolls, drums, motors, pumps and production equipment Electric-hoist or multi-trolley double girder crane Wide coverage in humid, dusty or corrosive service Environment, trolley count, maintenance access and protection level
Bulk material handling Ore, coal, biomass, waste, clinker and slag Grab double girder crane Repeated loading, unloading and stockpile transfer Bulk density, grab volume, fill factor, cycle target and hopper geometry
Warehouse and automated storage Coils, dies, long products, pallets and production stock Automated or semi-automated double girder crane Repeatable inventory movement and integration with plant controls Storage map, throughput, positioning, traffic zones and recovery mode

Hazardous areas, molten metal, outdoor exposure, high temperature, coastal corrosion, clean production and seismic conditions require project-specific engineering. A standard workshop crane should not be reclassified by changing only the motor enclosure or surface coating.

Project Case: 43-Crane Offshore Wind Manufacturing Program

Henan Mine Crane double girder overhead cranes for offshore wind equipment manufacturing
The first project phase placed 43 double girder cranes into operation for heavy offshore wind component manufacturing and assembly.

A large offshore wind manufacturing program required coordinated handling of nacelles, hubs, blades and related components. The first phase included 43 double girder cranes installed and placed into operation. The equipment program combined high-capacity lifting, multiple hooks, controlled low-speed motion and lifecycle monitoring.

The flagship configuration was rated 500+250/32 t and used two trolleys for individual or coordinated operation. Project records specify multi-hook synchronization error within 2 mm and electronic anti-sway control limiting swing angle to within ±0.5°. Automatic speed adjustment matched travel behavior to load condition.

The engineering value lies in system coordination rather than capacity alone. Load geometry, lifting points, trolley separation, bridge stiffness, synchronized motion, runway reactions, operator visibility and process interlocks were treated as one handling system. The case demonstrates the scalability of double girder architecture from standard electric-hoist cranes to major engineered lifting equipment.

    Double Girder Overhead Crane FAQ

When is a double girder overhead crane preferred?

Double girder construction is normally considered for higher capacities, longer spans, demanding duty, improved hook height, open-winch trolleys, multiple hooks, walkways or process-specific attachments.

Is a double girder crane always more expensive than a single girder crane?

The bridge normally has greater structural weight and more complex trolley arrangements. Total project value depends on whether the double girder design avoids building changes, improves hook height or supports duty that a single girder crane cannot provide.

What is the difference between an electric-hoist and open-winch double girder crane?

An electric hoist is a packaged lifting unit suited to defined general-duty ranges. An open-winch trolley separates drum, motor, gearbox, brakes and reeving for higher capacity, heavier duty, redundancy or process customization.

Can a double girder overhead crane have two trolleys?

Yes. Two trolleys can operate independently or in coordinated modes for long loads, rotation and multiple pick points. Combined capacity, load sharing, trolley collision limits and control authority require definition.

Does double girder construction improve lifting height?

A top-running trolley can travel above or between the girders and often places the hook closer to roof level. Actual hook height depends on rail elevation, girder depth, trolley envelope, hook block and maintenance clearance.

    What working class is required?

Working class follows the load spectrum, lifts per hour, travel, shifts and annual service. The published general electric-hoist family covers A3–A6; process or high-duty cranes require separate mechanism and crane classification.

Can an existing runway support a new double girder crane?

Only after structural verification. The assessment should use actual crane self-weight, wheel loads, trolley position, lifted load, impact, lateral forces, rail condition and support capacity.

How much does a double girder overhead crane cost?

Installed-market examples place a general 5 t system near US$60,000 and a 10 t system near US$100,000 under stated North American conditions. International projects require quotations based on complete equipment and site scope.

Which information has the greatest effect on price?

Capacity, span, lift, duty, trolley architecture, speed, runway length, controls, environment, structural work, freight, installation access and testing boundary create the largest cost differences.

What should a final quotation include?

The quotation should identify parameters, working class, mechanisms, runway reactions, control system, safety devices, documents, tests, packing, freight, installation, commissioning, training, spare parts, schedule and exclusions.

A Gate-Handling Solution for Your Dam

A dam gantry crane, also called a dam-top or dam-crest gantry crane, travels along rails to connect gate slots with deck transfer, storage and maintenance positions. It handles the movement that a fixed gate hoist cannot provide between those locations.

Our QM product family is configured around the gate and the site. The resulting package combines lifting duty, reach, connection geometry and outdoor protection, with a clear boundary between crane supply and site works.

What Henan Mine Crane Can Provide

    A project-specific crane arrangement

We develop the crane layout around the working positions: gate pickup, transfer, maintenance and parking. The arrangement makes the proposed lifting reach and clearances visible before manufacture.

    A coordinated equipment package

The supply package can include the gantry, hoisting mechanisms, gate-handling beam, travel system and controls. Included equipment and optional functions are listed together in the technical offer.

    Support through installation and operation

Installation guidance, commissioning, training and spare-parts support can be included in the project scope. The commercial offer identifies the selected service package and responsibilities.

A gate lifted at two sides Coordinated lifting arrangement for the approved two-point geometry. Point loads, alignment limits and synchronization concept.
Pickup below the water surface Gate-handling beam with a defined engagement and release arrangement. Beam interface and connection-verification method.
Several bays on one runway Rail travel and working coverage across the selected positions. Coverage layout and operating sequence.
Replacement of an existing crane A new arrangement evaluated against the existing runway and deck. Proposed wheel reactions and an interface review for civil verification.

Emergency closure and movement under flow are developed as specific operating duties. Their mechanism, power-loss response and acceptance conditions are addressed separately from routine maintenance handling.

Dam Gantry Crane Compared with Other Lifting Arrangements

Equipment What it provides Application boundary
QM dam gantry crane Gate lifting and transfer between working positions along the runway. Combines gate interfaces, operating forces and crane travel.
Fixed gate hoist Dedicated gate operation at one location. Useful for immediate local operation or simultaneous operation of several gates.
Double-Girder Gantry Crane Outdoor lifting of machinery and dry components. Gate operation under water loads requires a separate engineered configuration.
Truss Gantry Crane Outdoor construction and component handling. General handling duty does not establish gate holding or emergency capability.
Electric-Hoist Overhead Crane Lifting within an indoor maintenance bay. Building runway coverage differs from dam-deck and submerged pickup access.

A mobile crane serves gate bays in sequence. We evaluate the handling route and required availability when discussing whether one shared crane is appropriate.

Engineering the Gate Load and Lifting Interface

We use the approved gate-load schedule to develop the crane rating and lifting arrangement. The review covers the gate, suspended beam and gear, load distribution at the attachments and the applicable wet operating-force cases. Hydraulic force calculations remain part of the gate design.

For scale, a 40 t gate with 2 t of beam and rigging has a dry suspended mass of 42 t, approximately 412 kN of weight. This illustrative calculation is not a crane rating: friction, buoyancy, hydraulic forces and the design criteria still affect the selection.

The lifting-interface design connects the crane to the gate. Beam geometry, guide entry, connection confirmation and controlled release are addressed as one handling sequence, rather than left as unrelated accessories.

Controls and Protection Matched to Gate Duty

    Positioning and alignment

We develop the motion-control arrangement for gate placement and the selected lifting geometry. Two-point lifting includes an agreed synchronization concept and response to alignment faults.

    Holding and power loss

The braking and holding arrangement follows the intended duty. Where emergency functions are included, the project design addresses the stated power-loss scenario and recovery sequence.

    Outdoor protection

The package addresses humidity, water exposure and wind. Operating limits and storm-parking restraints are treated separately, with restraint reactions coordinated with the civil interface.

These functions are identified in the technical offer and verified through the agreed test plan. Emergency gate movement under flow requires site-approved hydraulic and operating conditions.

Crane Drawings That Connect with Your Civil Design

Our crane design provides the equipment layout and interface information needed for coordination with the dam and runway. The project drawing package can include working positions, wheel reactions, rail geometry, parking restraints, electrification and service access.

For a replacement, we compare the proposed crane arrangement with the available as-built information. The civil designer verifies the existing supports against the new reactions; the crane design then follows the agreed interface.

Access to brakes, ropes and drives is considered alongside the gate transfer route. Component removal space and erection access are addressed during layout development, reducing the chance of discovering an obstruction after equipment arrives.

Keep Fuel Moving from the Receiving Pit to the Boiler

A biomass crane transfers fuel in batches: it clears incoming deliveries, distributes material through the store, blends selected stocks and replenishes the feed hopper. The downstream feeder meters fuel to the boiler. We engineer the crane around both systems so reception work does not consume the capacity needed for feeding.

    One coordinated equipment package

Bridge, trolley, hoisting system, fuel grab and controls are selected together. This keeps grab self-weight, usable payload, motion performance and electrical interfaces within one technical offer.

    Useful storage coverage

We map pickup zones, hopper openings, approach distances and maintenance positions onto the fuel-store drawing. An overhead arrangement can reduce dependence on loader aisles inside the covered working area.

    A defined route to operation

The offer can include installation guidance, commissioning, operating instruction and recommended spares. Equipment, site services and plant responsibilities are itemized for procurement.

Biomass Crane Configuration and Technical Details

Item Configuration supplied for the project
Crane arrangement Overhead grab crane for a fuel hall or bunker; gantry arrangements evaluated for suitable outdoor storage.
Base grab-crane family QZ catalogue family: 5–20 t. The biomass-duty configuration, grab and automation are selected for the installation.
Lifting capacity and payload The technical schedule separates rated lifting load, grab self-weight and net fuel payload.
Grab volume and closure Selected from fuel density range, particle size, moisture, required throughput and hopper dimensions.
Span, travel and lifting height Dimensioned from runway centres, storage depth, discharge elevation and the usable working envelope.
Motion speeds and duty Hoisting and travel speeds, acceleration and duty classification matched to the calculated load spectrum and cycles.
Operating modes Manual, assisted cycles or engineered automatic operation, with the included functions stated in the offer.
Plant interfaces Hopper demand, level signals, downstream readiness, restricted zones and agreed plant-network communications.
Delivery documentation Arrangement drawings, technical schedule, electrical documentation, manuals and contracted inspection records.

The QZ catalogue capacity identifies the base product family. It does not establish fuel throughput or suitability for a particular continuous-duty cycle. Those values are set out for the offered crane.

Choose the Grab for the Fuel You Actually Handle

Fuel form Handling approach What our selection addresses
Wood chips A clamshell or other bulk-material grab matched to the chip characteristics. Bucket volume, penetration, retained load and discharge into the receiving hopper.
Bark and fibrous residues A grab evaluated for long pieces, interlocking material and incomplete closure. Tine or shell geometry, closing action and the risk of material hanging across the opening.
Wood pellets and similar granular fuels A bulk grab selected for retention and controlled discharge. Fines leakage, drop height, pellet damage and dust at transfer points.
Loose agricultural residues Material-specific grab selection using the actual size and compaction range. Low bulk density, uneven filling and the time needed to obtain a useful payload.
Straw or biomass bales A separately engineered bale clamp or bale-handling attachment. Bale dimensions, mass, wrapping, gripping method and storage pattern.

A single grab will not suit every fuel stream. For plants switching between fuels, we evaluate the density range, attachment changeover and controls needed for each operating mode.

Select for the Whole Fuel-Handling Shift

Our engineering review connects boiler demand with delivery peaks and storage movements. Low-density fuel can fill a large grab without producing much mass; a denser fuel can reach the permitted suspended load before the grab is full.

Operating condition How we develop the arrangement
Deliveries concentrated into a short daily window Calculate receiving-pit clearance alongside ongoing hopper replenishment.
Several fuel grades or storage zones Map stock locations and blending transfers, with fuel segregation and task priorities included where required.
A narrow hopper or restricted headroom Match grab opening, approach height, travel path and discharge control to the available space.
Automatic night-shift feeding Develop task scheduling, hopper signals, sensing, alarms and a controlled recovery mode.
Operation during crane maintenance Assess buffer storage, recovery time, spare-grab arrangements and any alternative handling route.

Biomass Crane Compared with Other Fuel-Handling Arrangements

Arrangement Where it fits Effect on the plant layout
Intelligent grab overhead crane A covered store needing multiple pickup zones, blending and automatic hopper replenishment. Travels above the store; runway structure, headroom and service access form part of the layout.
Moving floor and conveyor system A defined reclaim and transfer route with comparatively fixed material flow. Useful where continuous reclaim is the main task; blending and access depend on the storage design.
Wheel loader with a receiving hopper Sites needing mobile handling across accessible floor areas. Requires traffic routes, turning space and an operating plan for vehicles and people.
Grab-and-hook gantry crane Suitable outdoor auxiliary handling or mixed bulk and equipment duties. Uses ground-supported runways and must suit the fuel, weather and operating frequency.
Dedicated bale-handling crane Straw or other packaged biomass delivered as bales. Uses a bale-specific attachment and storage strategy instead of a loose-fuel bucket.

We develop the crane and its transfer interfaces around the chosen fuel-handling system. A crane feeding a buffer hopper can work alongside conveyors and metering equipment.

Size by Tonnes per Hour, Then Check the Suspended Load

Net fuel payload depends on the grab’s useful volume, the fuel bulk density and how well it fills. Total handling demand includes receiving, blending and rehandling as well as boiler feed.

    Illustrative wood-chip calculation

Assume a 6 m³ grab, fuel density of 0.25 t/m³ and an effective filling factor of 0.80. These are calculation inputs for this example, not specifications of an offered crane.

    Calculation Result
    Fuel payload: 6 × 0.25 × 0.80 1.20 t per cycle.
    A complete 120-second cycle at 75% productive utilisation 1.20 × (3,600 ÷ 120) × 0.75 = 27 t/h of handling capacity.
If the same fuel stream falls to 0.15 t/m³ Payload becomes 0.72 t; calculated capacity falls to 16.2 t/h with the other assumptions unchanged.
If grab self-weight is assumed to be 2.20 t The first condition produces 3.40 t of suspended mass before additional attachments. The maximum fuel density must also be checked.

What this means for selection: the lightest fuel may govern the volume and cycle rate, while the densest permitted fuel may govern lifting load. We check both and state the assumed routes, filling factor and productive time in the capacity calculation.

Boiler thermal output alone is insufficient for crane sizing. Fuel consumption also depends on heating value, moisture and plant efficiency; the boiler supplier’s mass-flow requirement provides the feeding basis.

Control the Sequence from Hopper Demand to Fuel Delivery

For an automatic system, a hopper demand signal starts a handling task. The crane checks the permitted route and destination readiness, collects fuel from the assigned zone and discharges inside the programmed opening area.

Henan Mine Crane intelligent grab overhead crane structure and trolley arrangement
Double-girder intelligent grab crane structure. The biomass grab, sensors and plant interfaces form part of the selected project package.

    Receiving and feeding priorities

The offered control sequence can prioritize hopper replenishment while allocating available cycles to truck reception, storage distribution and blending.

    Positioning and load control

VFD motion control, position feedback, anti-sway and weighing can be included. Pile-surface sensing and slack-rope protection are specified where required by the selected grab and automation concept.

    Clear operating and recovery modes

The control package identifies manual access, assisted cycles, automatic functions, alarms and recovery procedures. Multiple-crane coordination is engineered when included.

The interface schedule defines signals exchanged with the plant PLC or DCS, their purpose and the response to a lost signal. The hopper and downstream feeder remain part of the coordinated process.

Project Experience in Automated Fuel and Bulk Handling

    Biomass industry example: Kaunas, Lithuania

Konecranes’ 2013 CXT Biomass brochure documents a New Heat project at a 10 MW boiler house in Kaunas. The fuel hall had three tipping bunkers, three storage areas and a double hopper. The installation used a 4 t hoist and a 2.5 m³ hydraulic clamshell grab, with automated operation, sway control and slack-rope prevention.

This was a Konecranes installation. It illustrates why cycle calculations, building clearance and the fuel-store layout matter alongside hoist capacity; its dimensions and ratings are not Henan Mine Crane product specifications.

Henan Mine Crane: commissioned automatic grab technology

Henan Mine Crane’s December 2025 project report records an automatic grab crane entering service at a waste incineration power generation facility. Its published functions include variable-frequency control, absolute-encoder feedback, anti-sway, fixed-point grabbing and constant-weight cyclic operation.

This is experience in an adjacent fuel-handling application. A biomass proposal receives its own grab, material-flow and operating-duty selection.

Build Service Access into the Fuel Store

A dependable feeding arrangement includes a practical way to inspect the crane, service the grab and recover from a stoppage. We develop the following provisions with the equipment layout:

    Provision Delivery benefit
Grab parking and service position An accessible landing area for inspection, wear-part replacement and attachment changeover.
Machinery and sensor access Platforms and access arrangements for the selected crane, with cleaning access for sensors where fitted.
Wear parts and operational spares An itemized recommendation for ropes, brakes, grab wear parts and selected electrical components.
Maintenance and control records Supplied manuals, parts identification and contracted control-system backup and access provisions.

The available hopper buffer, expected repair duration and alternative fuel route determine what the plant can sustain during an outage. Where two cranes are proposed, we assess remaining reach and throughput when one is unavailable.

Protection for Dust, Moisture and Controlled Access

Fuel properties and the building environment guide enclosure protection, coatings, cable systems and cabinet ventilation or cooling. The crane package includes the agreed load protection, motion limits, emergency stops and operating-zone controls.

For a classified combustible-dust area, the proposal identifies the applicable equipment suitability and certification scope. Dust protection and explosion protection are separate requirements. Truck-tipping zones, personnel access and maintenance isolation are addressed in the agreed operating logic.

Crane controls can exchange fire or plant-alarm signals where specified. The fuel store’s fire detection, suppression and process protection remain coordinated plant systems.

Biomass Crane Price, Delivery and Acceptance

Henan Mine Crane quotes the complete selected configuration. Grab volume and self-weight, span, lift, operating duty, automation and installation conditions all affect the offer.

Quotation item Scope shown in the offer
Crane and fuel grab Bridge, trolley, lifting machinery, selected grab, drives and crane controls.
Automation and plant integration Included sensors, operating sequences, software functions and plant interfaces; optional upgrades listed separately.
Runway and electrification Supply boundaries for rails, runway steelwork, conductor systems, cables and incoming power.
Delivery and site services Packing, delivery basis, installation guidance, commissioning, training and destination-specific service scope.
Testing and handover Agreed factory inspections, applicable load tests, site functional checks and representative fuel-handling acceptance conditions.

The commercial proposal states lead time, warranty terms and exclusions. Equipment shipment and site services are separated so the project team can compare quotations on the same basis.

For performance acceptance, the test uses the agreed fuel properties, pickup and discharge route, and workload split. Factory motion testing verifies the equipment functions; the site test establishes performance in the actual fuel store.

    Biomass Fuel-Handling Crane FAQs

    What is a biomass crane?

A biomass crane moves fuel between receiving areas, storage zones and feed hoppers. For loose fuel, it normally uses a grab. Bale handling requires a suitable bale attachment and a separately engineered handling arrangement.

Can one grab handle wood chips, bark and pellets?

Sometimes, but compatibility depends on particle size, density, moisture, closure and discharge behaviour. We evaluate the permitted fuel range and identify any attachment changes or operating limits in the proposal.

Does the crane feed the boiler continuously?

The crane normally replenishes a buffer or feed hopper in batches. Downstream equipment meters fuel to the boiler. Crane capacity, hopper storage and the feeding sequence are selected together.

How is the required lifting capacity calculated?

The rating is selected against the complete permitted suspended load, including the grab, fuel and applicable attachments. Net fuel payload and tonnes-per-hour performance are calculated separately.

Can the crane run automatically at night?

Automatic operation can be engineered with the required sensing, hopper signals, zone controls and recovery modes. The offer defines the functions and the plant supervision and intervention arrangements.

Can you replace a crane in an existing biomass hall?

We can assess the existing runway, clearances, hopper locations and electrical interfaces. The proposed arrangement identifies wheel reactions, working coverage and installation requirements.

What is included in a biomass crane quotation?

The offer identifies the crane and grab, control functions, electrification, documentation, spares and selected site services. Delivery time, warranty and exclusions are stated for the proposed configuration.
